Jaguars sign Patrick Murtagh via International Player Pathway program, release Ayo Oyelola
The Jacksonville Jaguars announced they’ve signed tight end Patrick Murtagh through the NFL's International Player Pathway program.
The IPP program gives athletes from around the globe the chance to compete in the NFL through training camp and potentially land as a member of a team’s 53-man roster. Even if they aren't signed to the active roster at the end of camp, players in the IPP program are allowed to remain on practice squad for the duration of the season.
They're back: 3 storylines to follow as Jaguars voluntary offseason program begins
Murtagh, originally from Australia, was assigned to the Detroit Lions last year before having to withdraw from the program due to injury.
At 6-foot-5, 250 pounds Murtagh will add depth to Jacksonville’s tight end room. He’s a freakish athlete who competed in the Australian Rules Football with the Gold Coast Suns.
Defensive back Ayo Oyelola has been released by the team as a result of the move. He was a member of the Jaguars for the last two seasons via the IPP program.
