Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence is 'sore' due to knee injury, officially 'day-to-day'

Trevor Lawrence is officially "day-to-day" due to a left knee injury suffered during the team's win against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, and it is unclear if he will be able to suit up against the New Orleans Saints on Thursday Night Football this week, Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson indicated Monday.

Lawrence was seen sporting some form of knee brace after the game Sunday.

"He's sore," Pederson said, but the head coach did not give any indication of the severity of Lawrence's injury, referring to Jaguars vice president of player health and performance Jeff Ferguson to answer any questions about specifics regarding Lawrence.

"That's out of my jurisdiction," said Pederson.

Will Trevor Lawrence play in Thursday night's game against the Saints in New Orleans?

When asked if Lawrence would suit up Thursday, Pederson reiterated that the QB was "day-to-day."

Lawrence and the Jaguars will have just a few days to prepare for the Saints.

The third-year quarterback was injured late during the fourth quarter after rolling out and getting hit from behind, ultimately falling down and twisted awkwardly. Lawrence sat out the team's final series after being ruled questionable to return.

Backup QB C.J. Beathard took three knees to allow time to expire.

Pederson stated that there is a possibility of Beathard taking some first-team reps in practice this week if Lawrence is "sore."

"We've done this before, we did it last year. CJ took the Wednesday reps and then Trevor took the rest of the week and was ready to play in the game. So, it's possible that happens," Pederson said.

Lawrence aftermath: Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence feels 'OK' after knee injury, Pederson defends play call

After the game, Lawrence indicated that he felt "OK" but was awaiting further tests.

"I'm feeling okay. I'm going to get it checked out tonight and see kind of what's going on. I feel pretty good. I'm walking around all right," said Lawrence. "Can't really say much now. Want to make sure everything is checked out before."

Lawrence has never had a knee injury before in his football career.

"That's what also makes it tough," he said. " A little bruised, too, so kind of trying to sort through what it is kind of right now."

Lawrence has only dealt with a couple of injuries since turning pro, a hamstring injury that forced him to miss a couple of drills during the offseason in 2021 and a low-ankle sprain in Week 9 that season in a win over the Buffalo Bills. He did not miss any time due to the ankle injury.

Lawrence's most significant injury in his NFL career came last season after he sprained his toe in Week 12, forcing him to miss significant practice time but no games.

Lawrence has started all 40 regular season games in his career, as well as both playoff games in which the Jaguars have participated.
