Jaguars QB Trevor Lawrence enters concussion protocol after taking hit in loss to Ravens

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence has entered the concussion protocol after taking a hit late during the team's 23-7 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday Night Football, Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said following the game.

"In Trevor's case, he was evaluated after the game and he'll actually enter the [concussion] protocol," Pederson said.

Lawrence finished the game completing 25-of-43 passes for 264 yards, one touchdown and two fumbles. He was the team's leading rusher with 41 yards on four carries.

Lawrence did not exit the game at any point during the contest and even shook hands with his Ravens counterparts before going to the locker room.

Lawrence was seen in the team's postgame locker room but did not speak with reporters after the game, due to being in the protocol, per league rules.

According to the league's player care standards, a player enters the concussion protocol if they "exhibit or report symptoms or signs suggestion of a concussion or stinger (a nerve pinch injury) or if the athletic trainer, booth ATC spotter, team physician, or another medical official can initiate the protocol."

Players must pass a series of tests in order to be cleared to play, which Lawrence must do as the team gets set to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Christmas Eve.

Lawrence has not missed a game in 48 regular-season opportunities but has dealt with various injuries, including a knee injury and a high ankle sprain. In both cases, he played the following week after suffering the injury.

This is Lawrence's first time in the concussion protocol in the pros, but he did suffer "concussion symptoms" against Syracuse in 2018, his freshman year at Clemson. Lawrence played the next week against Wake Forest.
