One coach said Deion Sanders wasn't SWAC at Jackson State. But what about T.C. Taylor?

T.C. Taylor is SWAC. Just ask Alabama State football Eddie Robinson Jr.

"Oh, absolutely. T.C. Taylor is a SWAC guy 100%," said Robinson with a smile on his face. "He played in the conference, coached in the conference and I am looking forward to competing against him. I think he is going to do a great job."

Taylor replaced former Jackson State coach Deion Sanders in the offseason after Sanders was named the Colorado coach.

For those that may have forgotten, after JSU's 26-12 win over Alabama State in 2022, Sanders went to shake hands with Robinson. While shaking hands, Sanders tried to hug him but Robinson pushed Sanders away.

In the press conference after the game, Robinson said, "I'm living on the shoulders of the SWAC, he ain't SWAC, I'm SWAC."

That moment birthed a slogan and rivalry in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

Sanders popped back with, "Who is SWAC, if I ain't SWAC."

Jackson State faces Alabama State in the Tigers Homecoming game on Oct.14.

Robinson said he knows the game against Jackson State will likely be called the SWAC Bowl. He is looking forward to playing JSU on its homecoming game.

"It was one of those things in the emotions after the game, I was like hey, let's play them for homecoming," Robinson said. "It worked out that way. That game will be a lot of fun. I have been to Jackson State's Homecoming and that is a great atmosphere and I have a lot of great friends who are from Jackson State. Whenever you can get two schools together and compete on the big stage it is going to be great for both universities and the conference."
