Jac Caglianone ties Florida baseball hit streak record in final home game of UF career

Florida baseball two-way star Jac Caglianone put himself in the record books in an emotional home finale on Sunday against No. 5 Kentucky.

In the eighth inning, Caglianone laced a single to right, extending his hit streak to 30 games. That tied Jacob Young for the longest hit streak in Florida Gators history. Young, now an outfielder with the Washington Nationals, did it across three seasons from 2019-21.

Caglianone started the game and pitched 6.1 innings, allowing 3 runs (1 earned) on two hits with three walks and three strikeouts in a no decision. Fans at Condron Ballpark gave him a standing ovation when he left the mound.

At the plate, Caglianone went 2 for 4 with a run scored. But it wasn't enough as Kentucky beat Florida 7-5 in 10 innings, sending the reeling Gators (26-25, 11-16 SEC) to their sixth straight SEC series loss.

"These three years flew by, so it was very surreal," Caglianone said. "A little bit of a tear-jerker for sure just being around the same guys for such a long time."

Caglianone, projected as the number three overall pick by the Colorado Rockies in July's Major League Baseball amateur draft, stayed close to an hour after the game, signing autographs for kids.

"The environment, playing in front of your home crowd, there's nothing like it, really," Caglianone said. "I'm honestly going to miss it a lot. It's been nothing but great for me and my family."
