IWA's Lady Angel Classic set plus this week's high school softball power rankings
If you see some buses around the area with school districts you might not recognize, don’t be surprised. Yes, it is coming up on Spring Break season, but also IWA will be hosting the Lady Angel Softball Classic, one of the area’s largest tournaments this weekend at multiple venues in Portland and Corpus Christi.
The tournament features 52 teams from all corners of Texas. There are softball teams from El Paso, the Metroplex, Houston metro area, San Antonio, Beaumont, the Rio Grande Valley and multiple points in between, along with a healthy contingent of local squads.
The tournament's games will begin at 9:15 a.m. Thursday and run through Saturday afternoon at the Portland Sports Park, Portland Municipal Park and Greenwood Park in Corpus Christi.

Here’s a look at this year’s first power rankings
1. Calallen
The Wildcats will face some tests this weekend at the Clear Creek Tournament.
2. Santa Gertrudis Academy
The Lions will take some momentum into the weekend after a big win against Flour Bluff.
3. Veterans Memorial
The Eagles will head north for the Pearland Tournament this weekend.
4. Carroll
The Tigers will be among a multitude of teams competing in IWA’s tournament this weekend in Portland and Corpus Christi.
5. Sinton
Sinton will look to keep the momentum in Dripping Springs after a win against Ray on Tuesday.
6. Hebbronville
The Longhorns are off to a torrid start at 6-0.
7. London
Another 30-3A team off to a solid start, the Pirates will be playing in Pearland this weekend.
8. Gregory-Portland
The Lady Cats earned a tight win against Tuloso-Midway on Tuesday and now will play in IWA’s tournament.
9. Tuloso-Midway
The Cherokees will look to rebound this weekend at the IWA tournament.
10. Flour Bluff
A young Hornets squad is still working to find its footing after two weeks.
