Irsay rips Colts after preseason loss

Don't tell Jim Irsay that NFL preseason games are meaningless.

The Indianapolis Colts owner took to Twitter on Monday to apologize to fans a day after the team's 44-20 loss to the Buffalo Bills in the exhibition opener.

Irsay wrote, "Many starters played briefly or were nursing little injuries, but it was a crap performance,my apologies/My commanders got n earful from me!"

Colts quarterback Andrew Luck completed four of six passes for 51 yards during his two series of action. Indianapolis led 10-3 after the first quarter and was still ahead until the middle of the second quarter, by which time most of the starters had taken a seat.

Indianapolis is coming off a turnaround season that finished with an 11-5 record and a wild-card playoff berth. Luck had a big rookie season, and the Colts overcame the loss of head coach Chuck Pagano for much of the year due to leukemia treatments. Interim coach Bruce Arians was hailed for his handling of the team, and he wound up landing a job as the Arizona Cardinals' head coach.

The Colts play a road preseason game against the New York Giants on Sunday.
