Injury Report: Warriors’ Andrew Wiggins remains out vs. Trail Blazers on Friday

If the Golden State Warriors are going to extend their three-game winning streak on Friday against the Portland Trail Blazers, they’re going to have to do it without a pair of All-Stars in the starting lineup.

While Steph Curry is dealing with a shoulder injury, Andrew Wiggins has missed Golden State’s previous 12 games due to an adductor injury and a non-COVID related illness. Wiggins has been cleared to return to practice, but came down with an illness before he could make his return to the starting lineup.

Wiggins is expected to miss his 13th consecutive games on Friday against the Trail Blazers. According to Anthony Slater of The Athletic, there’s “a sense” Friday will be Wiggins’ final missed game of his injury stint. After Friday’s game against the Blazers, the Warriors will get two days off before hosting the Atlanta Hawks on Jan. 2.

Prior to his injury, Wiggins was averaging 19.1 points on 51.1% shooting from the field with 5.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 32.8 minutes per game. In his last game before missing time due to injury, Wiggins tallied a career-high 36 points with eight made 3-pointers against the Houston Rockets.

With Wiggins and Curry out, Steve Kerr has leaned on Donte DiVincenzo and Jordan Poole alongside Klay Thompson in the backcourt. Anthony Lamb, Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody have also recently made appearances in the Warriors’ starting lineup.

The Warriors are scheduled to host the Trail Blazers on Friday night at 7 p.m. PT in San Francisco for their final game of the 2022 calendar year.
