IndyCar Music City Grand Prix gets new start time

The Big Machine Music City Grand Prix, which will move from downtown to Nashville Superspeedway on Sept. 15, will start a 2 p.m. CT.

The announcement came Tuesday from NBC Sports and IndyCar officials.

The race, which started at 11 a.m. in 2023, will serve as the season finale for the NTT IndyCar Series and determine the 2024 IndyCar Series champion

Race officials announced on Feb. 14 the fourth annual Music City Grand Prix would move to Nashville Superspeedway due to construction scheduled to start on Feb. 29 on the new Tennessee Titans stadium. Instead of being a street race, the Music City Grand Prix will be run on the 1.3-mile D Oval concrete track at Nashville Superspeedway.

Construction of the $2.1 billion Titans stadium is expected to be complete in time for the 2027 NFL season. Officials said the Music City Grand Prix would move back to downtown then.

Kyle Kirkwood won the 2023 Music City Grand Prix, Scott Dixon won in 2022 and Marcus Ericsson in 2021.

The Music City Grand Prix will be the last of 18 races on the IndyCar circuit this season.

The 2024 IndyCar Series season begins on March 10 with Florida’s Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.

Other highlights on the schedule include the $1 million challenge made-for-TV exhibition race at the Thermal Club outside of Palm Springs, California (March 24), the Indianapolis 500 (May 26), and the Hy-Vee IndyCar Weekend (July 13-14) at Iowa Speedway.
