'I have no idea what it is:' Dabo Swinney learns how to find The CW ahead of Clemson's game vs. NC State

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney now knows how to find The CW on his channel guide.

The Tigers’ game against NC State on Saturday is on The CW Network. It’s the first time Clemson has played on The CW this season and Swinney was very unfamiliar with the network when he was asked about it on Tuesday.

“I have no idea what it is, I don’t even know where it’s at,” Swinney said. “Where do I go to it?”

After Swinney was quickly informed that The CW was channel 62 in the Clemson area, he wanted to make sure he could find it via his DirecTV guide.

“OK, channel 62 … Where is it on the guide on DirecTV? I got DirecTV. Oh that’s where it’s at? 62, alright.”

You can forgive Swinney — and a lot of Clemson fans, for that matter — for not knowing how to find The CW before Tuesday. He said he doesn’t watch much TV other than sporting events and the news and Clemson hasn’t had to worry about falling down the ACC TV pecking order much over the past decade.

But the Tigers are 4-3 this season after a Week 8 loss to Miami and have lost three ACC games in a season for the first time since 2010. Their struggles are why Clemson’s game kicks off at 2 p.m. on The CW instead of at another time on an ESPN-owned network.

It’s also the first season of The CW’s TV deal with the ACC. The network took over the former Raycom sports package of ACC games ahead of the 2023 season as it slowly gets into the sports broadcasting space. The CW airs LIV Golf tournaments and is also set to air second-tier NASCAR races starting in 2025.

The CW’s games so far this season have been entertaining, too. The network broadcast Virginia’s first-ever win over a top-10 team in Week 8 when the Cavaliers stunned North Carolina and Pitt’s upset of previously undefeated Louisville was also on The CW. NC State is hoping to continue that upset run. The Wolfpack are 10-point home underdogs to the Tigers.
