BELLFLOWER, Calif. – Colby Bowman took three trips in the last few weeks and they were all unforgettable for the 2019 three-star receiver.

The Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco standout landed a new offer from Stanford and it’s clear that the Cardinal will be a major player in his recruitment.

“That Stanford offer is huge,” Bowman said at Bosco’s annual scrimmage. “Getting an opportunity to go to Stanford, I don’t think you can turn that down. That’s huge for me both on the field and in the classroom. That’s the goal: Stanford.”

The 6-foot-3, 185-pound receiver spent time visiting Stanford and then he worked out at summer camp, noticing the whole time coach David Shaw was watching him closely.

There was a reason why.

“I was a little bit surprised,” Bowman said. “I wasn’t expecting it that soon. I was expecting it more toward the end of my junior year after I took some tests, maybe after football season ended.

“We went up there for the junior day with some Bosco guys, toured the whole campus, spent all day with the coaches. Afterward, there was a little camp and I noticed Shaw watching me the whole time. His eyes were glued on me.

“After the camp there was a barbecue and coach (Mike) Bloomgren and coach (Tavita) Pritchard pulled me and my family aside. They took us to the visitors’ locker room and I said this could be happening.

“(Shaw) said, ‘Colby I hope this is the first and last time I see you in here because I want to offer you a scholarship to Stanford.’ I couldn’t stop smiling. It was awesome.”

After the Stanford visit, Bowman and a few Bosco teammates traveled to Berkeley – where the 2019 standout landed another offer.

“We went up there, toured around the campus, toured all the facilities and it was awesome,” Bowman said. “Cal was amazing. After the tour and seeing stuff, coach (Justin) Wilcox pulled us into his office and that’s how it went down.”

The final trip was to UCLA where Bowman already had an offer from the Bruins. The main objective of that visit was to see the new Wasserman Football Center – and it did not disappoint.

“UCLA was big,” Bowman said. “That’s still definitely a top school, I could stay home, and it’s a phenomenal program. Getting up there and seeing the new facility, it’s unbelievable. UCLA is still a big school.”

So far, Bowman has landed offers from Air Force, Arizona State, Boston College, Cal, Colorado, Fresno State, Nevada, Oregon, San Jose State, Stanford, UCLA and Utah.
