Huffman, Vieau lead Mackinaw City on All-NLC baseball first team
MACKINAW CITY – It was a big season on the baseball diamond for Mackinaw City senior Lars Huffman and junior Nick Vieau.
Huffman was a lights-out pitcher on the mound and one of the team’s best hitters, while Vieau was a terrific catcher and hitter. Both were instrumental in the Comets earning a school record 30 victories and finishing 10-2 in the Northern Lakes Conference.
Recently, the two were named to the All-NLC first team.
Comets earning spots on the All-NLC second team were juniors Lucas Bergstrom and Trystan Swanson, who both performed well in the field and with their bats.
Sabastian Pierce and Braylon Currie rounded out the Mackinaw City players by securing nods on the NLC squad as honorable mentions.
Joining Huffman and Vieau on the NLC first team were Ellsworth’s Kelan Pletcher, Jacob Jenuwine and Owen Cary, Harbor Light’s Caleb Ogden, Burt Lake Northern Michigan Christian Academy’s Josiah Brabson, Boyne Falls’ Ashton Spang, and Alanson’s Troy Johnson.
Pletcher was named the NLC’s Player of the Year.
NLC second team honors were earned by Harbor Light’s Joe Ruthig, Will Paulus, Jackson Mesner and Corin Paulus, Ellsworth’s Ryder Roberts and Nick Sponable, NMCA’s Josh Ferraiuolo, and Boyne Falls’ JT Greenier.
NLC honorable mention recognition also went to Alanson’s Owyne Greenier, Mason Weidenhamer and Donovan Honeysette, Boyne Falls’ Lasse Felton and Chace Elzinga, Ellsworth’s Michael Lucas and Patrick Puroll, Harbor Light’s Daniel Keefe, NMCA’s Wyatt Martens, and Wolverine’s Julian Rohloff and Ashton Stewart.
Huffman was recently named to the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association (MHSBCA) All-Region team and All-District team as a pitcher. Huffman also made the Academic All-Region and All-District teams.
Mackinaw City players joining Huffman on the All-District team were Vieau (catcher), Swanson (outfield), Pierce (pitcher) and Currie (pitcher). Bergstrom, Swanson and Pierce each made the Academic All-District team.
