HS Roundup: Boys and Girls State Wrestling Results, plus other scores from this week

SATURDAY

Boys Class 1A State Wrestling Championships

First Baptist earned an area-best fourth place finish in the Class 1A State Wrestling Championship on Saturday, with six different wrestlers earning a top-eight finish.

Asher Bacon (138) and Michael Kersey (144) both earned gold for the Lions. Jonathan Moder (132) earned silver, while Timmy Boda (113) brought home bronze. Andres DiGrigoli (157) and Everett Stephens finished fourth and sixth, respectively.

"It's up there as one of the greatest moments of my life," Kersey said. "I knew all my hard work since I was five years old had come to fruition, and I just wanted to go give my mom, dad, and coaches a hug."

Boys Class 2A State Wrestling Championships

Mariner led all SWFL schools in the Class 2A State Wrestling Championships with an eighth place finish behind two first place efforts. Camren French (126) and Maximus Brady (132) both brought home gold for the Tritons.

"I felt like I expected it, so it wasn't a shock but I'm very grateful for the people that helped me and the opportunity to be a state champion," Brady said. "It's on to the next step now."

Boys Class 3A State Wrestling Championships

Palmetto Ridge was the only local school to make the trip to the 3A State Wrestling Championships and brought back a fifth place finish. Kaden Darwin (285) earned first place for the Bears, while Demetri Zertopoulis (157) brought home silver. William McGowan (113) added a sixth place finish.

Girls State Wrestling Championships

Riverdale's seventh place finish marked the best placement of any local team that travelled to the Girls State Wrestling Championships. Jazlyn Diaz (110) and Blanca Cespedes (125) led the Raiders with fourth place finishes, while Sklyer Randolph added a seventh place finish to the impressive team effort.

SFCA 5, Cardinal Mooney 4: Aubrey Reilly's RBI triple lifted the King's to a win on Friday night. Candance Chime added a hit a two runs. Braelyn Davis lasted all seven innings in the win.

North Fort Myers 17, Ida Baker 1: Mia Lane hit for the cycle in the Red Knights win. Kaliyah Williams earned the win in the circle, giving up three hits and one run with one walk and four strikeouts in 3.1 innings pitched.

Riverdale 4, Cypress Lake 0: The Raiders improved to 5-0 on the year behind Ella Bundy's 3-for-3 night with a double and four RBI. Gabby Guigliano went 2-for-3 with a double, and Maddie Schmidt went 1-for-1. Adrianna Manetta lasted six innings in the win, tallying 12 strikeouts while allowing just one hit.

Seacrest 9, St. John Neumann 3: Caroline Porter went 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBI. Porter also picked up the win in the circle, allowing just two hits and one walk while fanning eight. Gracyn Crosby, Asha Dickerson, and Sophia Escobar managed one hit each for the Celtics, while Elle Moran had one RBI. Escobar was handed the loss after allowing giving up 10 hits and now walks while fanning six in six innings pitched.

Naples 17, Bishop Verot 2: Daphne O'Hara scored both of the Vikings' goals in the loss, along with three forced turnovers and three ground balls.

Boys Lacrosse

Taravella 14, Palmetto Ridge 8: Jeremy Walsh tallied four goals in the loss, while Ryan Rowie added a hat trick. Nico Cuevas netted his first varsity goal in the loss.

Immokalee 18, Lely 1: Ivan Jimenez posted five goals, and Jesus Martinez added four goals. Max Sosa finished with three goals, while Juan Vasquez, Ryan Mendoza, and Cherlin Michel added two goals each.

Immokalee 16, Marco Island 6: Ivan Jimenez tallied nine goals and one assist for the Indians on Senior Night. Jesus Martinez added three goals and three assists, while Juan Vasquez tacked on two goals and one assist. Max Sosa and Cherlin Michel finished with one goal each.

Cypress Lake 10, Riverdale 6: Stirling Spinks scored eight goals with one assist in the Panthers' first win of the year. Griffin Myers tallied 10 saves in the net.

St. John Neumann 24, South Fort Myers 1 (three innings): The Celtics brought home 19 runs on 11 hits while stealing 12 bases as a team in their stout win over the Wolfpack. Asha Dickerson went 2-for-4 with seven RBI, while Sophia Escobar added two hits, including a triple. Abby Augustine added two RBI after going 2-for-2 at the plate. Escobar pitched a no-hitter through three innings while fanning nine.

SFCA 5, IMG Gold 3: Will Higby homered for the King's, and finished with two RBI and two runs, while Jake Trottier finished 2-for-4 with one RBI. Tyler Miller picked up the win on the mound after giving up no hits nor runs while fanning three in four innings pitched. Eli Moore earned the save in two innings pitched with no runs, no hits, and two strikeouts.

Evangelical Christian 10, Oasis 0: Connor Beckman went four innings on the mound, and gave up just one hit with no walks while striking out eight.

Softball

Cypress Lake 17, Lehigh 2: Sammi Rosado earned the win in the circle, and also went 3-for-3 at the plate. Bri Madore went 2-for-2 with a double and a triple, and Audrina Westland added three RBI to the winning effort.

Riverdale 17, Island Coast 0: The Raiders tallied 14 hits in their shutout win over the Gators, led by Maddie Schmidt, Ella Bundy, and Sara Hall, who all had three hits each. Jordyn Korpi tallied three strikeouts for the Raiders, while Adrianna Manetta and Bundy added two each.

SFCA 22, Community School of Naples 1: Candice Chime finished with two hits and four RBI for SFCA, while Anastin Hanson added tow hits and three RBI. Braelyn Davis picked up the win in the circle after allowing just one hit, and Adrianna Thorne fanned three in one inning of relief.

Fort Myers 9, North Port 8: Reece Harris went 3-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Green Wave, while Sage Rodmyre and Tori Fulcher each drove in two runs. Alexa Bent lasted 5.1 innings in the circle in the win, and gave up six hits and three runs while walking two and fanning two.

Gulf Coast 18, Immokalee 1: Jesus Martinez assisted Max Sosa for the Indian's lone goal in the loss.

Cypress Lake 4, South Fort Myers 1: Olivia and Evelyn Mufalli won their two sets 21-14 and 23-21. Daniela Sosa and Ethne Hamilton also won two sets, 21-16 and 15-8.

Cape Coral 15, Riverdale 1: AJ Cudnik and Mikala Allen led the Seahawks with four goals each, while Ella Bernard added three goals. Makenzie Scully and Mati Day tacked on two goals apiece in the winning effort. Paige Williams tallied seven saves in the net for Cape Coral.

Boys Tennis

St. John Neumann 6, Oasis 1: Michael Abreu picked up the Sharks' lone win in No. 1 Singles.
