Host Vanoss sweeps Tupelo Tuesday night

Nov. 9—VANOSS — The Vanoss Lady Wolves overpowered Tupelo in the early going and rolled past the Lady Tigers 51-22 at home Tuesday night.

Vanoss starts off at 3-0 on the year, while Tupelo drops to 0-2.

In the boys' contest, the Wolves buried eight 3-pointers on the way to a 52-25 victory.

Coach Jon Hurt's boys squad won for the first time this season, improving to 1-2 while the Tigers dipped to 0-2.

The Tupelo teams travel to local rival Stonewall Friday night, while Vanoss heads to New Lima.

GIRLS

Vanoss 51, Tupelo 22

Vanoss jumped out to a 19-6 cushion to start the game and never looked back. The Lady Wolves led 32-8 at halftime.

VHS senior Avery Ellis continued her steady play for the Lady Wolves, scoring a game-high 18 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. She scored 10 points in the early Vanoss volley.

Fellow senior Eryn Khoury followed with 16 points for the home team and another senior, Maggie Stone, was next with seven points.

Zoey Cagle and Livi Ellis rounded out the Vanoss scoring with five points each.

Tupelo senior Josie Fortner led her team with 11 points on the strength of three 3-point baskets. Lainee Wafford was next with six points.

BOYS

Vanoss 52, Tupelo 25

Layne Thrower and Karver Trentham both hit three 3-point shots each to help the Wolves shoot past Tupelo.

Vanoss started the game on a 14-4 run and extended its lead to 30-7 by halftime.

Thrower finished with 14 points to pace the Wolves and Logan Hulbutta also hit double figures with 10. Trentham finished with nine points for the hosts. Vanoss was without the services of freshman starter Dyllan Brown, who is out indefinitely with an injury.

Gabe Story led the Tigers with 10 points. He hit a 3-pointer and went 5-of-6 from the free-throw line. Michael Waters and Cash Wafford also hit 3-point baskets for Tupelo.
