Honeoye Falls-Lima baseball hits firewall

Falling behind but coming back to win against a good baseball team is doable. Just ask the Honeoye Falls-Lima Cougars.

Honeoye Falls-Lima did just that to win the Section V Class A2 Championship.

Williamsville East put the Cougars in a similar situation Saturday during the Class A state tournament quarterfinal round.

This time, the Section VI Class A champion made sure there was no rally by Honeoye Falls-Lima, winning the Far West Regional 13-0 at Dwyer Stadium in Batavia.

"I was really impressed by them" Honeoye Falls-Lima coach Dan Hoyt said.

Williamsville senior Cooper Rosano: Finished 3 for 3, with 2 doubles and scored 4 runs. He drove in two runs.

The Flames from the Buffalo region led 1-0 when they scored 10 runs in the top of the third inning.

"We had one big error. Once we made that error, they strung together three or four more hits."

"I'm proud of the boys, and the run we made."

"We've won sectionals three times (in team history), we can't get past this game. We'll keep trying next year."

What's next

Honeoye Falls-Lima closed its season with a 15-10 won-loss record after trying to advance to a state semifinal round for the first in team history.

Williamsville East (19-6) is in the Class A state final four. The semifinals and finals for all five classes are in the Binghamton area. Play begins June 9.
