Fan poll: Independence softball's Brylie Waechter voted Columbia area girls athlete of the week

The votes are in and Independence's Brylie Waechter was voted by fans as The Daily Herald's Columbia area girls athlete of the week for May 6-11.

Waechter finished with 767 votes, 58.86% of the total responses. Waechter pitched three complete games on the week, striking out 22 batters while allowing 15 hits and no earned runs. Waechter was also 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs in a win last Tuesday.

Independence's Logan Riebe finished second in voting with 470 votes, 36.07% of the total. Riebe went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and two RBIs in a 3-2 loss to Ravenwood last Friday.

Third place was Richland's Ava Shrader, who finished with 34 votes, 2.61% of the vote. Shrader pitched 19 innings on the week, striking out 23 batters while allowing five hits and one earned run. She was also 6-for-8 on the week with a home run, a double and five RBIs.
