All Highway 34 wrestlers medal at Rich Gray Invite

Jan. 22—TRURO — The Highway 34 girls picked up another tournament win Saturday at I-35′s Rich Gray Invitational where eight wrestlers made it to the final bout of their weight class.

With 206 points, Highway 34 topped Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont (170) and Woodward-Granger (124). They were the only three teams over 100 points.

First Place

At 105, Quynn Foster (20-6) won with a 13-9 decision in the semifinals before advancing to the finals where she pinned Myla Nehring of Martensdale-St. Marys in the first period.

Evy Marlin (24-3) earned another 130 lbs tournament title after pinning her semifinal opponent and taking down Miley Kirkpatrick of Eddyville in a 13-7 decision.

State-ranked Savannah Sistad took the heavyweight title after pinning both her opponents.

Second Place

At 115, Sydney Hoffman pinned her first two opponents in the first period, but was defeated by Kate Krause of Eddyville in the finals.

At 125, Zoey Vandevender had a major decision in the quarterfinals and a semifinals pin, but was pinned by Macie Little of North Mahaska in the finals.

Grace Keeler pinned her quarterfinal and semifinal opponents, but in the 135 lbs championship match, she was defeated by Katelyn Brandhorst of Woodward-Granger in a late third-period pin.

Mila Kuhns pinned Kieren Perez of North Mahaska in the 140 lbs semifinals, but in the final match, Willow Ray of West Central Valley won in a 6-0 decision.

At 145, Cheyenne Dike pinned her first two opponents, but in the finals, she was pinned by Lauren Rodgers of Woodward-Granger.

Highway 34 heads to Sioux City Friday for Super Regionals where wrestlers will need to finish in the top four of their 32-person bracket to qualify for the state tournament Feb. 1 and 2 in Coralville.
