High schools: Tokay starts strong at early-season track and field meet hosted by Lodi High

Feb. 26—A handful of local track and field teams spent Saturday at Lodi High for the Lodi News-Sentinel Track and Field Meet, an early-season chance to set times and test mettle.

The teams included host Lodi, along with Tokay, Galt, Liberty Ranch and Bear Creek. Tokay won the varsity girls team standings with 128 points, followed by Liberty Ranch at 98 and Lodi at 88. The Tigers also won the boys standings at 139, followed by Liberty Ranch at 121 and Lodi at 91. Tokay won the JV girls standings with 162 points, and Lodi won the JV boys standings at 210.

Stephen Holbo and Mark Adkins won two events each for Lodi, with Holbo recording a 43-foot, 6-inch throw in the shot put and 141-8 in the discus. Adkins won the 110-meter hurdles at 17.09 seconds, and the 300 hurdles at 44.32. Liberty Ranch's Yousef Diab also took two events, winning the 400 at 52.65 and the 800 at 2:07.05.

Event winners for Tokay included Brandon Le in the 200 at 24.12, Jacob Ray in the high jump at 6-5, Joshua Young in the pole vault at 13-6 and Hashir Khan in the triple jump at 38-2. For Liberty Ranch, Kyle Oltmanns won the 3,200 at 10:34.66, Joseph Brown won the long jump at 19-11, and the Hawks won both the 4-by-100 relay at 45.61 and the 4-by-400 relay at 3:41.58. Galt's Kayson Jones won the 100 at 11.68, and Bear Creek's Jacob Brigham on the 1,600 at 4:46.84

Lodi's Gracelynne Duenas was a double-winner in the girls competition, with a 32-1 in the shot put and a 115-6 in the discus. Bear Creek had a pair of doubles as well, with Ella Choeun winning the 200 at 27.88 and the 400 at 1:06.34, and Hayden Spence winning the 800 at 2:34.25 and the 1,600 at 5:48.33.

Winners for Tokay included Noelle Breech in the 3,200 at 14:23.89, Brooke Frisk in the high jump at 5-1, and the 4-by-100 relay team at 54.87. For Lodi, Keily Ramirez won the pole vault at 10-0, and Karis Mann won the triple jump at 30-0.5. Liberty Ranch had a number of winners, with Ellie Rausser winning the 100 at 14.04, Gwen Lindburg winning the 100 hurdles, Ellianna Keiser winning the 300 hurdles at 52.97, Kaeli Vang winning the long jump at 13-7, and the 4-by-400 relay team winning at 52.97.

SOFTBALL

Varsity: Lodi 4, Liberty Ranch 3

The Flames opened the season on Friday with a victory, scoring a run in the bottom of the seventh inning after the Hawks scored two in the top of the frame to tie the game.

Abby Schweigert had a triple and two runs, and Ashlyn Jubrey also scored twice for Lodi. Reaching on singles were Jubrey, Allyson Frank, Ellie Schallberger, Kiki Mazza, Hannah Escalante and Alyssa Noriega.

For Liberty Ranch, Gracyn Graviette went 2-for-3, Natalie Vigil had a single and two RBIs, Ysabella Granata had a double, and Xiana Juarez had a single.

VOLLEYBALL

Varsity boys: Orestimba Tournament

The Lodi High boys volleyball team opened the season with tournament play in Newman, going 2-2 over the weekend. The Flames started with a 2-1 win over Waterford, then lost 2-0 to West and 2-0 to Orestimba before finishing with a 2-0 win over Delhi.

Lodi's JV team goes to Orestimba next weekend, while the varsity squad was scheduled to host Bear Creek on Monday and Manteca today.
