High School Sports Roundup: Who had big volleyball, cross country weeks?

The MHSAA playoffs are underway in a handful of fall high school sports while others are nearing the end of the regular season.

Here's a look at all the high school sports in Lenawee County from Oct. 16-19:

Boys Soccer

The Clinton boys soccer team gave Manchester a fight Tuesday in the Division 4 district semifinal at Jackson Lumen Christi, but ultimately fell 2-1 to end the season.

The Redwolves (14-7-2) opened the scoring with Angel Rubio finding Jimmy Schaffner at the 11 minute mark of the first half. The Flying Dutchmen tied it in the 25th minute and the score held until the Dutch scored with 14 minutes left in the match.

"Congratulations to Max Hampel, Sam Erickson, Parker Baughey, Bryce Wyman and Jacob Rothman on an incredible season and truly a remarkable career here at Clinton High School," said coach Marla Erickson. "Their legacy, grit and memories will live on through years to come."

Clinton was the last Lenawee County boys soccer team playing.

SEC White Cross Country

The Adrian boys and girls teams both took second place in the SEC White championships Thursday at Hudson Mills Metropark in Dexter, while Tecumseh girls were third and the boys were fourth.

It was a tight race on the girls side as Chelsea won with 42 points followed by Adrian (47) and Tecumseh (49).

The Maples' Sophy Skeels won at 19:19.20 while Anastee Davis was third (19:39.20) and Ayda Skeels was fourth (19:41.30). Tecumseh's Madison Morris was fifth (19:54.90) while Claire Cousineau was ninth (21:07.10).

Pinckney won the boys race with 27 points while Adrian had 37, Chelsea had 67 and Tecumseh had 123.

Adrian's Braylon Petty (16:09.80) and Moises Salazar (16:24.70) were fourth and fifth while Matthew Canales (17:08.40) and Chase Nyack (17:80.70) were eighth and ninth.

Tri-County Conference Cross Country

On Tuesday, the Tri-County Conference met at Hudson for the league championship meet where Erie Mason won both the boys and girls titles.

Sand Creek was the top boys team out of Lenawee, taking second with 69 points behind Mason (40) while Lenawee Christian was third (70) and Morenci was fourth (75). On the girls side, the Eagles won with 31 points followed by Whiteford (41) and Sand Creek (50).

LCS' Izzy Brooks won the girls race at 19:36.62 while Britton Deerfield's Aubrey Appleman was second (21:23.17) and Morenci's Emersyn Bachelder (22:33.04) and Leah Rorick (22:46.37) were fourth and fifth.

Keegan Masters of Whiteford won the boys race at 16:51.89 while LCS' Joel Lange was the top Lenawee runner in third (17:32.35). Sand Creek's Silas Daniels was fourth (17:36.27), LCS' Nathan Daniels was sixth (18:04.72), Morenci's Landon Wilkins (18:08.15) and Beau Shaffer (18:11.17) were seventh and eighth and BD's Jameson Watson was ninth (18:27.60).

On Wednesday, the Cascades Conference meet for its league meet at Ella Sharp Park in Jackson where the Jonesville boys and Leslie girls won league titles.

The Addison girls took fifth while the boys were 12th.

Stephanie Hernandez was the lone top-10 runner as she took third at 20:28.46.

Girls Swimming

Adrian hosted rival Tecumseh and Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central on Thursday for a tri-meet where the Maples beat Tecumseh, 126-49, and SMCC, 126-57. Tecumseh fell to SMCC, 98-68.

Emma Pino and Ella Salenbien both had individual two wins for Adrian as Pino won the 50-yard freestyle (26.55) and 500 freestyle (5:40.69) and Salenbien won the 200 IM (2:19.81) and 100 breaststroke (1:10.25). Reese Beauleaux won the 1-meter diving event (190.55), Eleanora Andre won the 100 freestyle (57.50) and Madison Betz won the 100 backstroke (1:13.72).

Tecumseh's Jazzy Reau won the 200 freestyle (2:10.21).

In the relays, Betz, Andre, Salenbien and Allison Marks won the 200 medley (2:01.63) while Alexis Fox, Betz, Marks and Pino won the 200 freestyle (1:56.13) and Pino, Fox, Andre and Salenbien won the 400 freestyle (4:03.17).

Volleyball

Lenawee Christian hosted a tri-meet with Clinton and Grass Lake on Thursday, beating the Redwolves, 25-13, 25-13, before beating Grass Lake, 25-17, 23-25, 15-12.

Clinton also fell to Grass Lake, 25-10, 25-23.

Nalani Schanz had 11 kills, 11 assists and 13 digs while Kaylee Kranz had eight kills, 13 digs and four aces. Aby Freeman had 12 assists and Aubrey Lauer had 11 digs.

Clinton hosted Hudson in an LCAA matchup Tuesday and picked up a 25-17, 25-14, 25-9 sweep against the Tigers.

Kranz had 11 kills, 11 digs and three aces while Schanz had 17 assists, nine digs and seven kills. Lauer had 13 digs while Sammy Starnes had four kills and four aces and Lauren Sheneman and Eden Frederick added six and five kills respectively.

Madison swept Blissfield in LCAA play Tuesday with Jillian Kendrick hitting a milestone 3,000 assists as she recorded 23 in the 25-22, 25-20, 25-13 win. Kendrick added three aces as well.

Tatum Wilson was on the receiving end of many of those assists with 14 kills and seven blocks while Veronica Flores had 20 digs and Caylan Sower had 16 digs.

The Trojans are 36-8-3 and 11-0 in the LCAA.

Another great setter in Lenawee County is Addison's Lexi Patterson, who recently became the program's record holder in assists.

Patterson added 51 to her total Tuesday when she led the Panthers to a road Cascades Conference win against Jonesville, 25-16, 25-27, 25-16, 21-25, 15-7.

Molly Brown had 36 kills and 11 digs while Laci Patterson had 17 kills, Kate Huston had 19 digs and Kayli Trumble had 16 digs.

Onsted traveled to Hillsdale Tuesday and won the LCAA match in four sets, 18-25, 25-17, 25-21, 27-25.

JayElle Christian had 16 kills and 18 digs while Kaylee Rankin had 32 assists, Ava Ruttkofsky had 21 digs, Cloe Gerschwiler had seven kills and three blocks. Lexi Rankin added 10 digs and nine kills while Addison Gudakunst had 16 digs.

Sand Creek beat Morenci in a 5-set thriller in TCC play Tuesday, 23-25, 29-31, 28-26, 25-20, 15-11.

Maddie Osburn had 20 assists, 20 digs, 4.5 blocks, four kills and an ace while Zoe Rorick had 17 kills, three blocks and two aces. Scout Robinson had 20 digs, two aces and a kill and Carley Allen had 23 assists, three aces and two blocks. Hailey Bennett had 23 digs while Lainey Johnston had six blocks.

The Aggies then had a 3-set loss against Erie Mason at home, 25-15, 25-23, 25-17.

Rorick had six kills and two aces while Osburn had 10 digs, seven assists, five kills, three blocks and three aces. Johnston added five kills, two blocks and an ace while Boring had four kills, two blocks and an ace and Bennett and Robinson each had 12 digs.

Tecumseh remained alone on top of the SEC White standings by beating Jackson on the road Tuesday, 25-8, 25-17, 24-26, 25-17.

Emma Eldred had 20 kills and three aces while Lily Hammond had 26 assists and three aces and Alli Zajac had four blocks.

Adrian remained a game back of Tecumseh in the SEC White by sweeping Ypsilanti on the road Tuesday, 25-14, 25-12, 25-11.

Liv McKenzie had 34 assists and three aces while Lauren Fraser had 16 kills and six digs and Ella Salenbien had 10 kills and six digs. Halei Lefever had seven kills and three aces while Aubrey Zuvers had five kills and three aces and Allison Shaw had four aces.
