High school roundup: Trimper lifts IHC hockey team to OT win against Cazenovia in quarterfinal

Feb. 16—MORRISVILLE — Aidan Trimper scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner 10 minutes and 21 seconds into overtime, to lift the sixth-seeded Immaculate Heart Central hockey team to a 3-2 triumph over third-seeded Cazenovia on Thursday night in a Section 3 Division I quarterfinal.

The sixth-seeded Cavaliers improve to 12-6-1 on the season and advance to a semifinal next week against an opponent to be determined.

Goalkeeper Brodie MacGregor made 22 saves to record the win for IHC, which won its second sectional game in less than 24 hours.

On Thursday, Colin Whitmore opened the scoring by scoring a goal in the second period, which was assisted by Connor Lamb, and Trimper followed with an unassisted tally later in the period to provide the Cavaliers with a 2-0 advantage.

After Cazenovia (13-7-1) tied the score on a goal each from Jake Hightchew and Jack Donlin, Trimper followed with the deciding goal, which was assisted by Owen Van Brocklin.

"We're thrilled, the team never gave up and came up with a clutch play at the end," IHC coach Chris Nethers said. "The win was well earned and deserved."

On Wednesday night, the Cavaliers defeated Ontario Bay, 7-2, in a Division I first-round game at Watertown Municipal Arena.

Now IHC is headed to the semifinal round at a date to be determined.

"My greatest honor has been watching this team grow as one force, earning everything they have won and keep(ing) God first in our program," Nethers added.

OFA 5, NORWOOD-NORFOLK 2

The Blue Devils scored three goals in the third period to down the Flyers to win a Northern Athletic Conference Division II game.

Goalie Ty Jacobs stopped 29 shots to record the win for Ogdensburg Free Academy.

With a win tonight against Malone, the Blue Devils can secure a share of the Division II title along with Salmon River.

Caleb Averill collected 35 saves for Norwood-Norfolk.

BOYS BASKETBALL

CANTON 46, OFA 21

Zadok Roiger tallied a game-high 12 points on three-for-four shooting and sparked a key third-quarter run with seven points to pace the top-seeded Golden Bears past the fourth-seeded Blue Devils to win a Section 10 Class B semifinal in Canton.

Jackson Ames scored 10 points and totaled six rebounds and five steals for Canton and Ryan Jones also tallied 10 points.

The Golden Bears will advance to play Potsdam in the Class B title game at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 23 at SUNY Potsdam.

Freshman Grady Pharoah scored nine points to pace OFA.

POTSDAM 65, GOUVERNEUR 34

Ian VanWagner and Brodie Delaney each scored 13 points to propel the second-seeded Sandstoners past the sixth-seeded Wildcats to win a Class B semifinal in Potsdam.

Raine Rumble and Jared Donaldson led Gouverneur by generating eight points each.

In a pair of Class C semifinals, top-seeded Tupper Lake defeated fourth-seeded Brushton-Moira, 68-47, and second-seeded Lisbon downed Heuvelton, 43-38.

Tupper Lake will take on Lisbon in the Class C title game at 5:45 p.m. on Feb. 23 at SUNY Potsdam.

LOWVILLE 62, HERKIMER 52

Isaiah Spence poured in 36 points to fuel the Red Raiders to a nonleague win against the Magicians in Herkimer.

Eli Gronowski chipped in with seven points for Lowville (11-9) and Brian Thomas and Michael Fayle each chipped in with six points, with Thomas also totaling team highs in rebounds and assists with six each.

Zack Petucci scored 19 points to pace Herkimer (13-9), and Dante Mollel and Kyle Carney each contributed 10 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

HERMON-DEKALB 96, PARISHVILLE-HOPKINTON 14

The backcourt of Olivia Simser and Hannah Coller scored 27 and 20 points, respectively, to help pace the top-seeded Demons past the eighth-seeded Panthers in a Section 10 Class D quarterfinal at Hermon-DeKalb.

Aaliyah O'Donnell tallied 25 points for Hermon-DeKalb.

The Demons will advance to play fourth-seeded Edwards-Knox in a semifinal at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday at SUNY Potsdam.

Emma Phippen supplied 11 points to lead Parishville-Hopkinton.

CHATEAUGAY 56, HARRISVILLE 36

Irelynn LaPlante scored a game-high 17 points to pace the Bulldogs to victory against the Pirates in a quarterfinal in Chateaugay.

Kaelyn Morgan recorded a double-double by generating 16 points and 10 rebounds for Chateaugay, and Madison McComb tallied team highs in assists and steals with six each.

Isabel Miller scored 12 points to lead Harrisville and Violet Atkinson contributed 10 points.

Chateaugay advances to face third-seeded Morristown in a semifinal at 6 p.m. Monday at SUNY Potsdam.

HAMMOND 83, COLTON-PIERREPONT 26

Junior guard Ava Howie poured in a career-high 42 points, including connecting on seven 3-pointers, as the third-seeded Red Devils cruised to victory over the sixth-seeded Colts in a Class D quarterfinal in Hammond.

Landree Kenyon, who reached and surpassed the 1,000-rebound career milestone in a nonleague win over LaFargeville on Tuesday, finished with 23 points in her final appearance on her home court

Haley Murray scored 12 points to lead Colton-Pierrepont.

EDWARDS-KNOX 52, LISBON 41

Allison Bell scored a game-high 23 points, including faring a perfect 14-for-14 from the foul line, to help pace the fourth-seeded Cougars past the fifth-seeded Golden Knights in a quarterfinal at Edwards-Knox.

Addy Foster generated 21 points, including connecting on a pair of 3-pointers in the second half, for Edwards-Knox and Kiana Hogle contributed 12 points.

LOWVILLE 51, WATERTOWN 43

The Red Raiders (9-11) defeated the Cyclones (6-14) in a nonleague game played in Watertown.
