HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Sandwich girls and Bourne boys basketball teams advance to Elite 8

Four Cape basketball teams (three boys, one girls) were in Sweet 16 playoff action on Tuesday. Two teams moved on, while two had their seasons come to an end.

Boys Basketball

Div 4, Sweet 16: No. 2 Bourne 61, No. 15 Monomoy 53 (OT): The only Cape matchup of the day took extra time to determine a winner as the Canalmen beat the Sharks in overtime. Mike Dankert scored 22 points, while Leo Andrade dropped 18 points and Nate Reynolds added 11 points for Bourne (21-1). The Canalmen will host No. 10 David Prouty on Friday. Tamar Washington led Monomoy with a game-high of 23 points for Monomoy (15-7). The Sharks beat No. 18 Cathedral 66-51 in the Round of 32.

Div. 3, Sweet 16: No. 6 Medfield 61, No. 11 Martha's Vineyard 54: The Vineyarders came up just short and finished the season 15-7. They beat No. 22 Lynnfield 63-47 in the Round of 32.

Div 4, Sweet 16: No. 3 Monument Mountain 100, No. 14 Nantucket 47: The Whalers finished their season 12-10. They beat No. 19 Carver 64-61 in the Round of 32.

Girls Basketball

Div. 3, Sweet 16: No. 7 Sandwich 73, No. 23 North Reading 46: The Blue Knights (21-1) are headed to the Elite Eight. Maddie Lawrence led the way with 33 points, seven rebounds and four blocks, while Avery Cobban added 14 points, six rebounds and three blocks. Aubrie Schwager had 11 points and seven rebounds, while Paige Morrison contributed nine points and nine rebounds for Sandwich. They will travel on the road to face No. 2 Norwell on Friday.
