HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Marsh breaks school record for Cape Cod Academy girls soccer

Records are made to be broken, and that's what happened in Cape Cod Academy's girls soccer 8-0 win over Atlantis Charter on Tuesday.

Jenna Marsh (co-captain) had eight shots on goal and made three of them, breaking the Cape Cod Academy school record for career goals with 66 (was 64).

Lili Shanahan had six shots on goal. One found the back of the net, and she added two assists. Taylor Bodurtha (co-captain) came off defense and played center midfield and finished with four shots on goal, and two found the back of the net. Ally Moring and Grace Murray each had a goal.

Girls Soccer

St. John Paul II 2, Monomoy 1: The Lions (10-2-1) clinched the 2023 Cape & Islands Maritime Championship. After being down 1-0, JPII’s Addison Cheney scored her 28th goal of the season unassisted just 40 seconds after the Sharks' goal to tie the game. In the 66th minute, Raegan Dillon knocked in Ella Cheney’s corner kick for the winner. That was Dillon’s 100th career point. Goalkeeper Alex Depaula played well in goal, while defenders Meah Dalrymple, Devin Crofford, and Emma Collette also had good games.

Kiki Pigo Cronin scored off a Karah Deveau shot that rebounded off the goalie for the lone Sharks goal. Maya Flaherty made eight saves in goal, while Lucy Bates and Karlie Monteiro played well on defense and in the midfield.

Nauset 4, Martha’s Vineyard 1: The Warriors (10-2) won their fourth straight as they beat the Vineyarders (9-4). Olivia Avellar notched a hat trick, while Caroline Kennard finished with a goal and an assist. Margaret Manganaro and Audrey Silva each had one assist, and Tess Williams played well in the back for Nauset.

Elena Giordano received a pass from Sydney Bruguiere, and Giordano spun her defender and beat the Nauset keeper 1v1 for Martha's Vineyard goal.

Norfolk Aggie 10, Cape Tech 0: The Crusaders (0-11-1) lost on the road.

Falmouth 4, Barnstable 0: The Clippers (6-6-2) are back to .500 after the win over the Red Hawks (0-12-1).

Nantucket 5, Sturgis West 3: The Whalers (6-7) have won back-to-back games for the second time this season. The Navigators drop to 4-5-1.

Volleyball

Falmouth 3, Nauset 2: The Clippers (7-8) beat the Warriors (4-10) in five sets (25-9, 16-25, 23-25, 25-14, 15-11). Christina Femino had 24 assists, two aces and a kill, while Delia Roulston finished with 16 digs, three aces and one kill. Erin Barr had 10 kills, and Brooke Farrington chipped in six kills and three blocks.

Field Hockey

Sandwich 7, Norwell 0: Alivia Barnes and Elisabeth Stutzman each scored twice for the Blue Knights (13-0-1) to remain unbeaten on the season. Quinn Jordan (one goal and two assists), Meghan Dwyer (one goal, one assist), and Khloe Schultz (one goal) all contributed in the win.

St. John Paul II 3, Middleboro 3: Shea Ryan led the offense with one goal and two assists for the Lions (10-2-3). Kaylee Anthony chipped in a goal and an assist, while Sophie Stanley added one goal. Sophie Philbrick played well on defense.

Falmouth 5, Nauset 0: Avery Johnsen scored her 100th career point for the Clippers (9-3-3) in the win over the Warriors (4-8-2).

Boys Soccer

Cape Tech 10, Norfolk Aggie 0: Jace Clady scored four goals to lead the Crusaders' offense (6-7-2) in the win. Daniel Colares, Connor Gibson, Guilherme De Oliveira, Kyle De Freitas, and freshman Viktor Shkodrov each scored one goal.

Nauset 5, Martha’s Vineyard 1: Riley Meehan finished with one goal and two assists for the Warriors (8-1-5). Omari Perry, Aiden Brown, Paytah Dill and Salvi Cacciola each had one goal and one assist.

Barnstable 8, Falmouth 2: Sophomore captain Marcelo Diamantino had a hat trick for the Red Hawks (8-3-4) in a win over Falmouth (2-9-3).

Monomoy 5, St. John Paul II 3: The Sharks (11-2-2) continued their hot streak as they have not lost in over a month (Sept. 15). Ryan Laramee scored his 19th & 20th goals of the season, while Seamus St. Pierre had a brace and Joey McKeen also scored one goal for the Sharks.

Nico Sullivan contributed with two goals for the Lions (6-5-3), while Sebastian Ramos scored the third goal, assisted by Jose Aguilar.

Atlantis Charter 2, Cape Cod Academy 1: The Seahawks (1-10) came up just short on the road.

Nantucket 7, Sturgis West 2: The Whalers (7-3-3) won their third straight as they beat the Navigators (1-10) at home. Edin Vasquez led the way with a hat trick, while Jake Johnson, Bryan Mejia, Alexis Pena, and Elvis Alonzo each tallied a goal. Aiden Congdon and Alex Ivilov split time in net, and Rodane Watson and Kinnick King secured the back line.

Upper Cape 1, Old Colony 0: Luke Correia scored the lone goal assisted by Lucas Sherman for the Rams (11-2-1) as they clinched the Mayflower Championship.

Boys Golf

Bourne 248, Seekonk 281: Griffin Kelly shot a 37, while Ryan Burgess and Luca Finton each shot a 39 for the Canalmen (12-5) in the win. Brett Lucier and Trevor Billard each shot a 44, while Ryan Sullivan finished with a 45.

St. John Paul II 236, Barnstable 254: Led by senior tri-captains Jack Carstensen, Timmy Adams and Matt Curley, along with sophomore Sam Scioletti, JPII (18-1) avenged its lone loss of the season by beating the Red Hawks (12-3) at The Ridge Club.

Carstensen finished with a 1-under-par 34, and was followed by Adams, who toured the course in 2-over-par 37. Curley and Scioletti each shot a 40, while Chris Heywood finished with a 41 and Bella Scioletti ended with a 44.

Barnstable played the match minus their No. 2 player Colin Gleason, who was out with an injury. The Red Hawks No. 1 player Chad Tordone finished the day with a 38. J.J. Swindler had a 41, while Brody Nighan and Charlie Campbell chipped in with 42s.

Nantucket 238, Dennis-Yarmouth 283: Braden Knapp shot a 38, while Ryan Davis and Colton Chambers each shot a 39 for the Whalers (11-3). Colby O'Keefe (40), Michael Colkins (41) and Paddy Carroll (41) rounded out the top six.

Trey McPherson (43), Robbie McPhee (44), James Mullen (44), Ryan Clarke (49), Sam Beebe (50) and Kaleb Haddad (53) placed in the top six for the Dolphins (2-11

Sandwich 20.5, Falmouth 15.5: The Blue Knights (12-5) picked up their third win out of the last four matches. Falmouth falls to 4-9.

Nauset 247, Sturgis East 333: The Warriors (13-2) won their sixth straight match as they beat the Storm (0-12).

Boys Cross Country

Barnstable 21, Dennis-Yarmouth 34: The Barnstable boys team clinched the Atlantic Division of the Cape & Islands League. Senior captain Jaxson Merrill, who also has been undefeated this season, finished the 3.1-mile course in 16:29 for first place. Kevin DeFeudis (2nd, 17:07), Gabe Pichardo (3rd, 17:11), Ryan Wolfe (5th, 18:19) and Adrian Pichardo (10th, 19:57) placed in the top 10.

For D-Y, Nick Terranova led the way in third place with a time of 17:47. Pierce Johnson (6th, 18:43), Casey Fitzgerald (7th, 18:45), Jacob Viera (8th, 19:14) and Antonio Calle (9th, 19:53) finished in the top 10.

Nauset 20, Falmouth 38: Will Crowell (2nd, 18:20) and Ethan Kofuis (3rd, 18:37) led the way for the Warriors. Tim Sanders (4th, 18:40), Hunter Hunt (5th, 18:57), Bradford Hagopian (6th, 19:12) and Lucas Patton (8th, 20:15) finished in the top 10.

Silas Gartner finished first among all runners with a time of 17:42 for the Clippers, while Adrean Blackwood (7th, 19:27), Conor Furey (9th, 20:51), and Lukas Bushy (10th, 21:42) placed in the top ten.

Girls Cross Country

Nauset 15, Falmouth 50: Madeline Mahoney (20:14) placed first for the Warriors. Alyssa Hutchinson (2nd, 23:07), Ava Needel (3rd, 24:13), Lily Collum (4th, 24:28), Angela Diana (5th, 25:06), Kendall Fartey (6th, 25:30), and Nicole Boyce (7th, 26:17) placed in the top ten.

Taryn Joyce (8th, 26:47), Isabella Cabral (9th, 26:47) and Mickayla Codd (10th, 33:20) led the way for the Clippers.

Barnstable 19, Dennis-Yarmouth 40: The Red Hawks (5-0) handed the Dolphins (4-1) their first loss of the season on the Dolphins 5K course to capture the league title. Ava Bullock (19:25), Chloe Dibb (19:30), and Lilly DeDecko (19:40) swept the first three places for Barnstable. Kera Clifford placed sixth (21:06), Callie DeDecko was seventh (21:18), and Eleanor Bullock finished eighth (21:25) for the top 10 finishes. Siena Lauze and Olivia Pendleton placed in the top five for D-Y.
