HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: JPII boys golf clinch league title with win

The St. John Paul II Lions (15-1) boys golf team clinched the Cape and Islands League Lighthouse Division title with a 234-264 win over Sturgis West (4-6) at The Links at Bayberry Hills on Tuesday. This marks four consecutive league crowns for the Lions, who are currently 9-0 in the division.

Jack Carstensen set a JPII individual record for the lowest competitive round by a Lion when he finished the day with a 3-under-par 33. Carstensen had five pars, four birdies and a bogey on the day. Timmy Adams finished the day at 37, while Matt Curley chipped in with a 38, and Bella Scioletti had her best round of the season with a 39.

Mya Murphy had a 37, and Davis Perry had his best-ever nine-hole round shooting a 40 for Sturgis West (4-6).

Boys Golf

Upper Cape 9, Cape Tech 0: Zephyn Johnson shot a 36, followed up by Matt Nawoichik's 37 to lead the Rams (11-3) to a win at Sandwich Hollows par 36. Asher Graff (40), Tyler Kutil (41), Mitchell Kirkland (53), and Harry Gargan (54) rounded out the scoring for the Rams.

Martha’s Vineyard 247, Dennis-Yarmouth 280: The Vineyarders (4-5) picked up the win over the Dolphins (2-9) at Dennis Pines par 36. Luke Silvia, Mason Cron, Nick Rabeni, Jacoby Light and Piper Blau each shot a 41, while Peter Williamson followed up with a 42 for Martha's Vineyard.

Connor Bosiak, Adam Ruder and James Mullen each shot a 46 to lead the Dolphins. Trey McPherson and Ryan Clarke each shot a 47, while Kaleb Haddad had a 48.

Norwell 118, Sandwich 107: Blaise Chatigny led the Blue Knights (9-4) with a 40 in the loss. Luke Greeley and Kaden Schultz each shot a 43.

Cohasset 91, Mashpee 61: Tyler Cardeiro led the Falcons (0-12) with 13 stableford points at Cohasset Country Club. Jason Merkman finished with 12, and Jackson Carlson followed up with 11.

Nantucket 243, Sturgis East 309: The Whalers (10-3) picked up the win over the Storm (0-10).

Nauset 237, Monomoy 254: Jack Martin and Max St. Aubin each shot a 37, while Zach Weiner had a 38 to lead the Warriors (11-2) to a win over the Sharks (8-4).

Barnstable 238, Falmouth 252: The Red Hawks (11-2) picked up the win over the Clippers (3-8).

Bourne 284, Dighton-Rehoboth 287: The Canalmen (10-3) pulled out the close win. Griffin Kelly (42), Ryan Burgess (46), Nate McDonnell (46), Brett Lucier (49), Ryan Sullivan (49), and Ronan Kelly (52) all placed in the top six for Bourne.

Field Hockey

Middleboro 4, Mashpee 3: Addyson Rebello, Rhiannon Tokla and Alyssa Burri each scored a goal for the Falcons (2-9) in the loss. Ayesha Shafi had 13 saves, and George Tompkins had five saves in net.

St. John Paul II 8, Sturgis 1: Sophie Stanley and Kaylee Anthony each notched a hat trick and three total assists for the Lions (10-1-1), while Mia Curley added two goals in a win over Sturgis (2-4-2).

Shea Ryan and Maeve Shortt played well on offense setting up scoring opportunities, while Maya DeLancey carried the ball down the sideline and led the offensive drive in the last quarter for the Lions.

Girls Soccer

St. John Paul II 7, Dennis-Yarmouth 0: Addison Cheney scored three times, while her sister Ella Cheney had two goals and three assists to lead the Lions (7-2-1) to victory over the Dolphins (1-11). Kayla Katziff added one goal and one assist, Alexzana Depaula scored once, and Raegan Dillon chipped in one assist. Ellie Collette had the shutout in goal for JPII, while Madeleine Boyle and Lilly Menyhart played well defensively for the Lions. Sienna Ahern-Harding played well on offense and Brianna Hanniford did well communicating on the defensive end for the Dolphins.

Sturgis East 5, Cape Cod Academy 1: The Storm (4-4) beat the Seahawks (3-5) for their second straight win. Jenna Marsh had 10 shots on goal and one found the back of the net for the Seahawks. Lili Shanahan had three shots on goal and eight saves in net (first half), while Flynn Kayajan finished out the game with 10 saves in goal.

Nauset 7, Barnstable 0: Olivia Avellar finished with four goals (first-half hat trick) and two assists to lead the Warriors (8-2) to a shutout win. Caroline Bothfeld, Molly Farrell and Caroline Kennard each had one goal and one assist, while Violet Roche and Ellie Stewart each chipped in one assist.

Monomoy 4, Sturgis West 3: Karah Deveau scored all four goals for the Sharks (10-3) to win over the Navigators (4-3-1). Riley Hesse had two assists, and Maya Flaherty finished with 11 saves, which included one with a minute left. Fiona Moore played well in the mode field and defensively for Monomoy.

Rockland 4, Mashpee 0: The Falcons' (3-7) goalkeeper Norah Paolini had seven saves in the loss. Winsor Fancher, Emma Kelley and Addisyn Cannistraro-Carroll played well for Mashpee.

Rising Tide 3, Falmouth Academy 2: Natalie Hurlbut and Maya Shukla each scored a goal in the first half for the Mariners (4-6), goalie Maria Soares made some good saves in the second half.

Sandwich 8, Abington 2: Lily Hofmann and Megan Jakubicka each recorded a hat trick for the Blue Knights (6-4-1). Izzy Bar and Bryce Sawyer each scored a goal. Defenders Ayla Whitney, Ella Raymond and Julia Sutton played well, while Sophia Wanat played the entire game in the net.

Norfolk Aggie 3, Upper Cape 0: The Rams (6-4) came up short at home.

Martha’s Vineyard 3, Falmouth 0: Elena Giordano scored twice and dished out an assist for the Vineyarders (8-3) as they beat the Clippers (4-5-2) at home. Emily Coogan and Jane Coogan each dished out an assist, while Ava Townes scored her first career goal.

Boys Soccer

Sturgis East 2, Cape Cod Academy 0: PJ Dacruz and Gabriel Codjoe each scored a goal for the Storm (5-3-3) in a win over the Seahawks (1-7). Travis Markowski added one assist. Isaac Rocha finished with his fourth shutout of the season, while Henry Ellis played well on defense.

St. John Paul II 4, Dennis-Yarmouth 1: Sebastian Ramos scored two goals to lead the Lions (4-4-3) to a victory over the Dolphins (4-6-2). Nico Sullivan and Jose Aguilar each added one goal, while Cody Boghdan and Migy Armaczuk both provided assists. Goalkeeper Gabriel Paiva played well in the net. JJ Foreskin scored the lone goal on a penalty kick for the Dolphins.

Falmouth Academy 2, Rising Tide 0: The Mariners (5-4-2) had first-half goals from Fletcher Parsons (10') and Gabe Murray (20') for the win. Ezra Ackerman and Graeson Takach played well at wide back, while Marc Djikaev had several good tackles in the midfield through the last 10 minutes of the game for the Mariners. Jaiden Elber had 10 saves at goalie.

Upper Cape 8, Norfolk Aggie 0: Gideon Drury finished with a hat trick to lead the Rams' (9-1-1) offense in the win. Sean Murphy and Dimitrios Bairaktaris each had a brace (two goals), while Gabe Vasconcelos added another goal. Assists came from Drury (1), Lucas Sherman (2), Jadon Barton (3), Sean Murphy (1) and Emmanuel DeOliveira (1).

Cape Tech 6, Bristol Aggie 2: Jace Clady and Gabriel Martins both managed to score a hat trick to lead the Crusaders (3-6-2) to a win. Rahvarion Smith contributed two assists, and Alex Malone and Jonathan Da Silva provided one assist each.

Falmouth 4, Martha’s Vineyard 1: Webert Muniz and Marcus De Oliveira each had a brace in the second half for the Clippers' (2-7-2) victory. Porter Moehnke scored the lone goal for the Vineyarders (6-4-1).

Nauset 2, Barnstable 2: The Warriors (7-1-3) and the Red Hawks (4-3-4) ended in a draw. Charlie Cushing scored a goal and dished out an assist for Nauset. Aiden Brown added a goal, while Riley Meehan finished with one assist.

Monomoy 4, Sturgis West 1: The Sharks (10-2-2) have not lost since Sept. 15 as they beat the Navigators (1-7-1).

Rockland 3, Mashpee 2: The Falcons (3-6-1) came up just short in a home game.

Girls Cross Country

Falmouth 50, Nantucket 50: The girls teams finished with a draw as Isabella Cabral and Taryn Joyce both finished in the top three for the Clippers.

Barnstable 18, Nauset 45: The Red Hawks remain unbeaten on the season with a win over the Warriors at the 3.1-mile home course in Hyannis. Barnstable took nine of the top 10 places.

Ava Bullock and Lilly DeDecko crossed the finish line together to take the first two places in 19:27. Chloe Dibb (4th, 20:51), Kera Clifford (5th, 21:22), Eleanor Bullock (6th, 22:04), Callie DeDecko (7th, 22:38), Sophia Murphy (8th, 23:42), Molly Britton (9th, 23:43), and Makenna Dennis (10th, 24:06) rounded out the top 10. Nauset's Maddy Mahoney finished third in 19:51.

Boys Cross Country

Falmouth 21, Nantucket 40: Silas Gartner finished first overall with a time of 17:59 for the Clippers. Adrean Blackwood finished second with a time of 18:56, while Conor Furey, Cam Cunningham, and Robert Simpkins rounded out the scoring for the Clippers.

Barnstable 24, Nauset 31: Jaxson Merrill pulled away in first place with a time of 16:47 over the 3.1-mile course for Barnstable. Gabe Pichardo (17:31) and Kevin DeFeudis (17:32) were side by side for third and fourth place respectively. Ryan Wolfe had his best race of the season as he finished sixth in a season-best of 18:26, while Adrian Pichardo (20:08) placed tenth to round out the top ten scorers.

Will Crowell placed second in 17:25 to lead the Warriors. Ethan Koufous (18:18, 5th), Tim Sanders (18:39, 7th), Hunter Hunt (18:47, 8th), and Brad Hagopian (19:38) finished out the top ten scoring for Nauset.
