HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Hingham girls tennis wins first-round tourney matchup

The Hingham High girls tennis team defeated Shrewsbury, 4-1, in the first round of the MIAA Division 1 state tournament Wednesday.

Katelyn Erickson (6-3, 6-3) won in second singles, Sam Ruddick (6-0, 6-1) won in third singles, and the team's two doubles tandems of Maggie O'Keeffe and Mathilde Megard (6-1, 6-0) and Sammy Price and Kate Radulski (6-3, 6-0) also took home victories to round out the scorecard.

Sanya Khadivi lost a tie break (10-3) to Shrewsbury's Aanya Guffa in first singles (6-3, 2-6).

No. 10 Hingham advances to oppose the winner of No. 7 Westford Academy and No. 26 Waltham in the next round. The date and time haven't been announced.

Notre Dame Academy 5, Danvers 0: The No. 10 Cougars defeated the No. 23 seed in Div. 2 en route to the Round of 16.

Westwood 4, Silver Lake 1: The No. 24 Lakers lost to the No. 9 seed in Div. 2.

Martha's Vineyard 4, Middleboro 1: The No. 17 Sachems lost to the No. 16 seed in Div. 3 Round of 32.

Pembroke 3, Apponequet 2: The No. 7 Titans advanced to the Div. 3 Sweet 16.

Oliver Ames 5, Leominster 0: Hannah Farber (first), Olivia Querzoli (second) and Stella Zachos (third) won the singles matches for the Tigers while Emily Beaulieu/Ava Barth (first) and Marina/Ella Mierzwinski (second) took the doubles matches. No. 28 OA (11-6) will play at No. 5 Minnechaug in the Div. 2 Round of 32 on Friday at 2 p.m.

Central Catholic 4, Bridgewater-Raynham 1: The No. 33 Trojans lost to the No. 32 seed in the Div. 1 preliminary round.

BC High 5, Chelmsford 0: The No. 7 Eagles swept the No. 26 seed to advance to the Div. 1 Sweet 16.

Masconomet 5, Whitman-Hanson 0: The No. 32 Panthers lost to the No. 33 seed in the Div. 2 preliminary round.

Marblehead 5, Oliver Ames 0: The No. 24 Tigers lost to the No. 9 seed in the Div. 2 Round of 32.

Sharon 4, Canton 1: The No. 27 Bulldogs lost a Hockomock League matchup against the No. 6 seed in the Div. 2 Round of 32.

Nauset 3, Scituate 2: The No. 22 seed upset the No. 11 Sailors in the Div. 2 Round of 32.

Bartlett 5, Norwell 0: The No. 17 Clippers lost to the No. 16 seed in the Div. 4 Round of 32.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Quincy 3, South Lancaster Academy 1: The No. 32 Presidents advance past the preliminary round of the Div. 1 tournament with a win, 25-22, 21-25, 25-23, 25-18. Quincy had 35 kills on 34 assists and 55 digs as a team.

BOYS RUGBY

Hanover 50, Chelmsford 0: The No. 2 Hawks will host play the winner of No. 3 Weymouth and No. 6 Braintree in the Div. 2 semifinals.
