High school roundup: Beaver River thwarts Tully to advance to sectional volleyball final

Feb. 14—BEAVER FALLS — Kaelyn Boliver and Adalynn Olmstead combined for 41 kills as No. 2 Beaver River outlasted No. 3 Tully 3-1 on Tuesday night to advance to the Section 3 Class C volleyball final this weekend at Case Middle School.

Beaver River won 25-22, 28-30, 25-21, 25-19 and rallied in the final two sets to clinch the match. Rori Mattis totaled 30 assists and Ashlyn Boliver supplied 36 digs for the Beavers, who registered a 97-percent serve percentage.

Beaver River (17-0) is slated to play the winner of Wednesday's match between Mount Markham (17-0) and Cooperstown (16-2) for the title at noon Saturday in Watertown.

BOYS BASKETBALL

OFA 68, SALMON RIVER 53

Ian Rose provided a game-high 22 points as the fourth-seeded Blue Devils defeated the No. 5 Shamrocks in the Section 10 Class B tournament opener in Ogdensburg.

Jack Pink added 14 points and Blake Morrill scored 12 for OFA, which advanced to a semifinal game against Canton on Thursday in Canton.

Edwards Jones II scored 20 points and Tahar Lazore followed with 18 for Salmon River.

GOUVERNEUR 77, NORWOOD-NORFOLK 40

Kaleb Platt and Jared Donaldson anchored the Wildcats' first-quarter burst en route to the Class B opening-round victory over the Flyers in Gouverneur.

Platt scored 13 of his 18 points in the opening quarter and Donaldson added 11 of his 20 as Gouverneur entered the second quarter with a 26-6 lead. The Wildcats moved on to a semifinal game against the Potsdam Sandstoners on Thursday at Potsdam.

Matt Richards scored 16 points for the Flyers.

HEUVELTON 60, MADRID-WADDINGTON 40

Cam Johnson scored 18 points as the Bulldogs pulled away in the second half to claim the Class C quarterfinal against the Yellowjackets in Heuvelton.

Isreal Paradise added 11 points for Heuvelton and Parker Felt finished with nine. Heuvelton next faces No. 2 Lisbon in a semifinal Thursday in Lisbon.

Jakob Mayette scored 11 points for Madrid-Waddington.

In another Class C quarterfinal, Brushton-Moira defeated St. Lawrence Central 54-47. Brushton-Moira advanced to play at No. 1 Tupper Lake on Thursday.

In a nonleague game, Malone defeated Saranac Lake 41-39.

CARTHAGE 69, INDIAN RIVER 65

Makiah Johnson connected for 26 points as the Comets jumped to a 21-11 first-quarter lead en route to the nonleague victory over the Warriors in Carthage.

Michael Ventiquattro added 16 points for Carthage, Kalel Tevaga contributed 10 and Aiden Hicks finished with nine.

Mason Rowley posted 21 points for Indian River. Riley Alexander scored 14 and Ariel Raymond delivered 13. Trevor Shawcross made nine rebounds.

SOUTH JEFFERSON 61, GENERAL BROWN 56

Tommy Piddock put up 21 points as the Spartans pulled away in the final quarter for the nonleague win over the Lions (7-13) in Adams.

Bobby Piddock added 17 points, 13 rebounds and six assists for South Jefferson (9-11). Nate Matteson supplied 11 points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

HAMMOND 77, LAFARGEVILLE 44

Landree Kenyon scored 34 points as the Red Devils ran to an 18-8 lead in the first quarter en route to the nonleague victory over the Red Knights in Hammond.

Ava Howie added 16 points and Isabelle Woodock 12 for Hammond (15-3).

Emeline Barton keyed LaFargeville (15-4) with 21 points.

PARISHVILLE-HOPKINTON 49, ST. REGIS FALLS 16

In a Section 10 Class D play-in game, Bailey Warren supplied 23 points and 16 rebounds to help the Panthers advance against the Saints in Parishville.

Emma Phippen added 16 points and 18 rebounds for Parishville-Hopkinton, which advances to play at Hermon-DeKalb on Thursday.

Sarah Susice scored nine points for St. Regis Falls.

SOUTH JEFFERSON 45, IHC 39

The Spartans outscored the Cavaliers 17-6 in the third quarter en route to the nonleague victory in Adams.

South Jefferson improved to 12-8. IHC is 8-12.

LITTLE FALLS 51, LOWVILLE 45

Alexis Kress scored 20 points and Adriana Izzo added 12 as the Mounties defeated the Raiders in a nonleague game in Lowville.

Anna King led Lowville (8-11) with 11 points and Alyssa Millard followed with 10.
