HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: 20 Cape Cod girl golfers compete at South Sectionals

Cape Cod was home to 20 of the 53 girl golfers that competed in the South Sectionals at the Marshfield Country Club on Tuesday.

Emma Abramson (Sandwich) was the top Cape golfer with a score of 79, good for third place.

Maya Murphy (Sturgis West) made the top 10 as she tied for sixth place with a score of 84.

Bella Scioletti (Cape Cod Academy) rounded out the top 10 with the 10th spot with a score of 90.

Sophie Sullivan (Nauset) finished 13th as she scored a 95. Joining her for the Warriors were Kerry Farrell (tied for 21st) with a 105, Amelia Stevens (tied for 27th) with 111, Audrey Jones (tied for 31st) with 113, Bella Roberts (41st) with 120, and Sophia Silvestri (52nd) with 136.

For Dennis-Yarmouth, Annika Swanson placed 12th with a score of 93, and Kendra Hayes placed 14th with a score of 98.

Meagn Garthee tied for 17th with a score of 103, and Briah Uhlman (42nd) had 121 for Barnstable.

Kayla Sanclemente placed 30 with a score of 112 for Falmouth.

Ava Packett led Monomoy with 113, as she tied for 31st. Yu ying Zou (35th) had a 115, Orla Delaney and Ava Larocco tied for 45th with a 123, Sally Watson (50th) finished with a 132, and Emily Layton (53rd) ended with a 137 for the Sharks.

Seven teams competed in the team play, with Nauset (424 points) coming in sixth place (474 points), and Monomoy placing seventh.

Boys Tennis

Div. 3: No. 7 Sturgis West 3, No. 26 Grafton 2: Ray Zhang (6-0, 6-1 at second singles), and Ben Bass (6-2, 6-2 at third singles) each won singles matches for Sturgis (13-2). Colby Hall/Francisco Garcia Raya won first doubles (6-3, 6-3). They will wait to face the winner of No. 10 Medfield and No. 23 Ashland on Friday.

Div. 2: No. 22 Nauset 3, No. 11 Scituate 2: The Warriors (15-2) started the postseason with an upset victory. They will face No. 6 Sharon in the Round of 16 at a later time and date.

Div. 3: No. 34 Ludlow 3, No. 31 Falmouth 2: The Clippers (3-14) came up just short in the prelims to end their season.

Girls Tennis

Div. 3: No. 16 Martha’s Vineyard 4, No. 17 Middleboro 1: Cali Giglio (6-3, 6-0 at first singles), Evelyn Brewer (2-6, 7-5, at second singles), and Andrea Morse 6-0, 6-3 at third singles) swept the singles matches for the Vineyarders. Sophia Balsas/Ellie Pennington won first doubles (6-1, 6-3) for Martha's Vineyard (10-8).

Div. 2: No. 31 Plymouth South 5, No. 34 Nauset 0: The Warriors (9-8) ended their season in the preliminary round.

Div. 2: No. 12 Bishop Fenwick 3, No. 21 Falmouth 2: After ending the regular season undefeated in league play, and the Cape & Islands Atlantic Division League champs, the Clippers (14-3) season ended in the the Round of 32.

Div. 4: No. 30 Sturgis West 3, No. 35 Mohawk Trail 2: The Navigators (4-9) won their prelim matchup, and will face No. 3 Lynnfield tomorrow in the Round of 32.

Div. 3: No. 24 Watertown 3, No. 9 Cape Cod Academy 2: The Seahawks (14-3) were upset at home in the Round of 32.

Girls Lacrosse

Upper Cape 10, Shawsheen Tech 8: Adryanna Turner led the offense with six goals in the semifinals of the Vocational tournament. Alaina Hines added two goals, and Briel Bailey and Lauren Cox each contributed a goal for Upper Cape (16-3). Goalie Molly Petty had four saves, while Emma Hanoain and Arianna Pearson played well on defense.

Baseball

Old Colony 4, Upper Cape 1: The Rams lost in the first round of the Vocational Tournament to Old Colony in ten innings on Tuesday. Tyler Kutil allowed two hits and one run in eight innings, striking out six and walking two for Upper Cape (14-7). Logan Ewell had an RBI single in the fifth to tie the game 1-1. Patrick O’Rourke and Jared Coates each added hits.
