High School Football Roundup: Paint Valley roughs up Parkway to advance to regional quarterfinals

CHILLICOTHE − Local scores and roundups from the first round of the high school football playoffs:

Paint Valley 37, Parkway 23: The Bearcats were the second team in the Scioto Valley Conference to book their ticket to the regional quarterfinals after shutting down the Panthers in the Division VI, Region 24 playoffs on Friday night.

Braylon Robertson had himself another standout night for the Bearcats. The junior rushed for three touchdowns, completed a 26-yard touchdown reception and kicked a 23-yard field goal while also going 4-for-4 on point-after attempts. Preston Fauber made the pass to Robertson in the second quarter.

Jase Rinehart sealed the game for the Bearcats. On the Panthers' final drive of the game, he intercepted a pass and ran back into the end zone to score the Bearcats' final touchdown of the game.

Urbana 56, Unioto 21: The Shermans were forced out of the playoffs after the first round after a loss to the Hillclimbers in the Division IV, Region 16 playoffs on Friday night. They managed to hold the Hillclimbers into a 14-14 tie by the end of the first quarter, but turnovers piled up and set them behind after halftime.

Newton Hoops passed for three touchdowns on the night, all of which landed in the hands of Blake Hoops. Two of those passes came in the first quarter after a 28-yard pass and a 39-yard pass respectively. Hoops' final touchdown reception came in the fourth quarter after a 17-yard pass.

Valley View 55, Westfall 7: The No. 16-seeded Mustangs were stalled out in their potential upset bid against the Spartans in Division V, Region 20 playoffs in Germantown on Friday night. Although they managed to score in the first quarter and keep to a one-possession deficit by the end of the first quarter, the Mustangs weren't able to keep up.

Valley View never slowed down. Its defense held Westfall scoreless for the remainder of the game, all the while tacking on 20 points in the third quarter to all but put the game on ice.

Shawnee 37, Waverly 7: The Tigers were felled in the first round of the Division IV, Region 16 playoffs on Friday after being shut out of the first half by the Braves. The Braves scored 30 points before halftime, all the while holding the Tigers scoreless until the waning minutes of the fourth quarter.

Mason Kelly and Mason Sparks were responsible for Waverly's lone touchdown of the night. After Shawnee turned the ball over on downs, Kelly capped off Waverly's drive with a 22-yard touchdown pass to Sparks.
