High school basketball roundup: Christian Heritage boys set up rematch for region title; Stage is set for week of region tourney action

Feb. 12—Boys Christian Heritage 91, Atlanta Classical 43

Christian Heritage (20-4) defeated Atlanta Classical (18-7) 91-43 Saturday to advance to the championship game of the Region 7-A DII tournament.

Isaac Plavich hit six 3-pointers and totaled 18 points for the Lions. Jax Abernathy scored 23 points, and Cash Hare had 14.

The Lions play Greenforest Christian for the region championship tonight at 7 p.m. at Southwest DeKalb High School.

North Murray 78, Fannin County 66

North Murray (18-5) defeated Fannin County (13-11) 78-66 on Saturday to close out the regular season.

Judson Petty led the Mountaineers with 26 points. JD Ellis scored 17 while making five 3-pointers, and Lane Watson put in 15.

North Murray advances to the Region 7-2A tournament. The Mountaineers will be the fourth seed and play 5th-seeded Murray County tonight at 5:30 in the quarterfinals.

Cedartown 58, Northwest Whitfield 56

Northwest Whitfield (16-10) had its season ended Saturday with a 58-56 loss to Cedartown (13-13) in the quarterfinal round of the Region 7-4A tournament.

The Bruins miss out on an appearance in the state playoffs by a game and end the first season under coach Matthew Smith with a 16-10 record.

Cedartown advances to the semifinals to play Central-Carrollton.

Heritage 78, Southeast Whitfield 38

Southeast Whitfield (2-24) fell to Heritage (13-12) 78-38 Saturday in the Region 7-4A tournament, ending the Raiders' season.

Southeast wraps up the year, the first under head coach Mark Oliver, at 2-24.

Heritage advances to the region semifinals to play Sonoraville.

Dalton seeded second in Region 7-5A tournament, will play in semis Wednesday

2nd-seeded Dalton plays at Cartersville Wednesday at 5:30 in the semifinals of the Region 7-5A tournament against the winner of a first-round game between Cartersville and Woodland. The championship game is set for Friday night at 8:30 in Cartersville.

Coahulla Creek receives second seed in region tourney

Coahulla Creek is the 2nd-seeded team in Region 6-3A and gets a bye to the region semifinals. Coahulla plays Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in the semis of the region tournament, which is at Adairsville. The championship game is set for Friday at 8:30 p.m.

North Murray, Murray face off in Region 7-2A tournament

It'll be North Murray vs. Murray County for a spot in the state playoffs tonight at 5:30 at Murray County. Fourth-seeded North Murray will play fifth-seeded Murray in the quarterfinals of the Region 7-2A tournament, with the winner advancing to the region semifinals and securing a state playoff berth. The two teams split two games played earlier this season. The winner will play top-seeded Model at Murray Thursday at 8:30 p.m., while the championship game is set for Friday at 8:30 p.m.

Girls Greenforest Christian 75, Christian Heritage 36

Christian Heritage (16-11) fell 75-36 to Greenforest Christian (21-5) in the championship game of the Region 7-A DII tournament Monday night.

The game was played at Columbia High School.

The Lady Lions miss out on the region title, but finish as the region runner-up and will get to host a first-round playoff game in the Class A DII state tournament.

Dalton earns top seed, will play in semifinals Wednesday

Dalton, by virtue of its 8-2 Region 7-5A mark during the regular season, earned the top seed for the region tournament and is already assured a state berth. On Wednesday at 7 p.m., Dalton will play the winner of 4th-seeded Hiram and 5th-seeded Cass in the Region 7-5A semifinals. The region title game is set for Friday night at 7 p.m. The tournament is being held at Cartersville High School.

Top-seeded Murray hosts tournament, North Murray to play Rockmart in quarterfinals.

After winning a region title last season, Murray County finished as the top seed in Region 7-2A and will host the region tournament this week. Murray has a bye to the semifinals Thursday night at 7 p.m. Murray will play the winner of a quarterfinal game tonight between 4th-seeded Rockmart and 5th-seeded North Murray. The championship game is Friday night at 7 at Murray.

Northwest plays Heritage tonight in semifinals

After beating Southeast Whitfield in the Region 7-4A quarterfinals Friday night, 3rd-seeded Northwest set up a game against 2-seed Heritage tonight at 7 in the region semifinals. The winner advances to the region championship game Friday at 6 p.m. The tournament is played at Georgia Highlands College in Rome.

Coahulla Creek is second seed, receives bye to semifinals

Coahulla Creek ended the season as the 2nd-seeded team in Region 6-3A and will have a bye to the Region 6-3A semifinals Thursday at 3 p.m. Creek will play either Adairsville, Ridgeland or Bremen. The championship game is set for Friday night at 7 p.m. The tournament is being held at Adairsville.
