High School Baseball: Tournaments season is here! Plus this week's power rankings
Here we go!
The first weekend of high school baseball tournaments will hit fields across the state, including multiple tourneys here in the Coastal Bend along with the annual Border Olympics in Laredo.
Here’s a look at some interesting matchups this weekend that might pique your interest.
Robstown vs. Rockport-Fulton, 6 p.m. Friday, Sinton – This is an interesting test for both squads with playoff aspirations and by this game it could be testing pitching depth.
Orange Grove vs. Banquete, 10 a.m. Friday, Banquete – A nice measuring stick game for both squads.
King vs. Edinburg Vela, 11:15 a.m., Thursday, Laredo – This is a possible playoff matchup.
Comal Davenport vs. Ray, 4:45 p.m., Friday, Laredo – Two teams with big aspirations meet in a nice early-season test.

1. London
The Pirates make their annual trip to Port Isabel for their February tournament.
2. Sinton
These Pirates will be hosting their own tournament, looking to shore up their pitching staff.
3. Veterans Memorial
The Eagles head west to Laredo looking to see if they can build up their offense.
4. Ray
The Texans also head to Laredo this weekend after a frustrating season-opening loss.
5. Calallen
The Wildcats head to McAllen this weekend.
6. Carroll
Carroll will make its way to Georgetown to face multiple tests in one of the state’s best early season tournaments.
7. King
The Mustangs will take the momentum of an extra-inning win to Laredo this weekend.
8. Robstown
Set for multiple games in Sinton this weekend.
9. Tuloso-Midway
The Warriors return to action in McAllen this weekend.
10. Gregory-Portland
The Wildcats are also heading south after opening the season against San Marcos.
