Hesperia Christian’s Kailey New is the Victorville Chevrolet High School Athlete of the Week
There were 40,908 votes cast this week in the race for the Victorville Chevrolet High School Athlete of the Week poll winner.
It came down to the wire, and Hesperia Christian’s Kailey New ended with 44.27% of total votes casted by Daily Press readers.
The basketball player received 18,108 votes, beating out nine other high school athletes from across the High Desert.
To earn a spot on the ballot, Kailey helped lead the way to three victories for the Patriots last week.
In a 61-18 victory over Big Bear on Jan. 23, Kailey led the way for Hesperia Christian with 16 points. She scored 16 points again, along with five blocks, in a 52-29 victory over Riverside Prep on Jan. 26.
In the voting, Kailey beat out AAE’s Anahi Duron, who finished with 37.74% at 15,437 total votes. Anahi had a big week in two matches for the Knights as she matched the school record of 32 goals on the season after scoring four times in a 6-0 victory over Silver Valley Jan. 26.
Isaiah Butler, a basketball player from Victor Valley, finished in third place with 6.76% at 2,764 total votes.

The nominees were selected based on performances between Jan. 22 through 27.
Nominations are based on information available to the Daily Press. All high school varsity players from the High Desert can be considered for the ballot.
Nominations must be received for consideration by Sunday morning following that week's games. Anyone can nominate an Athlete of the Week for every varsity sport.
