Here's why Highland Park's football team received a win for a game it lost

TOPEKA — Highland Park's football team saw its record improve without even having to play a game.

The Missouri State High School Activities Association announced Monday that Lincoln College Prep from Kansas City will have to forfeit four games for playing an ineligible player.

Lincoln Prep defeated Highland Park 35-6 on Sept. 29.

Now, the Scots have been named the victors because the Blue Tigers used an ineligible player. Highland Park has improved to 6-1 on the season and is in third place in the Class 5A East standings. Four teams sit at 6-1 and the tiebreaker comes down to average point differential. De Soto and Blue Valley Southwest are the two teams ahead of Highland Park on the tiebreaker.

Highland Park will play its regular-season finale at home against Washington High School (4-3) on Friday.
