Here's how MUS plans to honor football star Dion Stutts who died tragically this summer

Memphis University School announced plans to honor former football player Dion Stutts, who tragically died earlier this summer.

The school announced Wednesday on X, formerly known as Twitter, that it would put Stutt's No. 62 at midfield under the "U" logo. Stutts died in a side-by-side, motor vehicle accident on his family's ranch on June 13. He was 18.

MUS football coach and athletic director Bobby Alston also said the team will wear decal's on their helmets with the No. 62 on it.

"Hull-Dobbs Field is emblazoned with No. 62 to celebrate the legacy of Dion Stutts '24 this football season," the MUS athletics account posted. "Once an Owl, always an Owl."

Stutts, who committed to Arkansas in March, was known by his friends and family as a "good ole country boy" who loved living on his family ranch. He was a two-sport athlete at MUS, dominating both the football field as a defensive lineman and a wrestler in the 285-pound class.

"We knew we were going to do that, shortly after it happened," Alston said.

Alston added there isn't a planned ceremony or anything scheduled for the Owls' home opener. Memphis University School opens the season at home against Bartlett on Friday. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

"You play to bring honor to him the way he played," Alston added. "He played with a joyful passion with the game."
