Harrisburg caps dominant tourney by winning two of three doubles flights

MITCHELL — Harrisburg capped off a dominating two-day performance in the 2023 Eastern South Dakota Conference boys tennis tournament by winning two of the three doubles flights on Wedesday.

The Tigers won championships in three of the six singles flights on Tuesday and also got championships from Brayden Rausch-Lenny Hammargren (second flight) and Koleton Anderson-Cooper Rott (third flight) in doubles to run away with the team title with 360 points. Defending champion Yankton was second at 221.5.

Watertown moved up a spot to finish fourth on Wednesday. Evan Meester and Justin Remmers took third in the second flight, Curtis Sneden and Mark Mahowald fourth in the first flight and Tyler Dingsor and Sam Karst fourth in the third flight for the Arrows.

"We had a great start to the day with all three doubles teams winning their opening matches," said Watertown head coach Ryan Zink. "Sam and Tyler continue to improve and they are becoming more confident each match. Evan and Justin had a tough third-place match and found a way to pull out the win."

Aberdeen Central finished sixth with 125 points, Preston Kremer and Sam Casper took third in the third flight, Sekou Gogue and Jack Riggs fourth in the second flight and Mitchell Hofer and AJ Prehn won the consolation title in first flight.

The Arrows and Golden Eagles will compete in the state Class AA tournament May 18-19 in Sioux Falls.

"We will definitely be working on doubles at practice as we get ready for the state tournament," said Zink.
