Hammond Girls gear up to defend Class D titles

Feb. 14—A makeup nonleague game with LaFargeville offered Hammond the chance to prime for the defense of their Section 10 and New York State Class D Girls Basketball Championships. The Red Devils wasted no time to take full advantage jumping to an 18-8 first quarter lead and scored 25 and 22 points in the second and third quarters on their way to a 77-44 victory.

The third seeded Red Devils will open sectional play in the Class D quarter-finals on Thursday against sixth seeded Colton-Pierrepont.

In the only Class D play-in game on Tuesday Parishville-Hopkinton downed St. Regis Falls 49-16 to advance to first seeded Hermon-DeKalb. The matchups are: Lisbon (5) at Edwards-Knox (4), and Harrisville (7) at Chateaugay.

Hammond 77 — LaFargeville 44: The Red Devils (16-3) won their seventh straight game, finished with a 9-0 league record and dropped their Frontier League opponent to 15-3. Landree Kenyon ignited a fast start in both halves for the Devils scoring 11 poinrts in the first and third quarters and went on to a 34-point effort. Ava Howie tallied 16 points, Issy Woodcock dropped in 12 and Mia Tulley added eight.

Rounding out the scoring were: Mikayla Jones with two and Addy Graveline with three. Emelin Barton tallied 21 points for LaFargeville followed by eight points from Chloe Gafford and six points from Morgan Labow.

P-H 49 — SRF 16: Bailey Warren (23 points, 16 rebounds) and Emma Phippen (16 points, 18 rebounds) led the Panthers (2-13) with hefty double-doubles and Sarah Susice tallied nine points for St. Regis Falls (1-15).
