H.S. Softball: Abilene Wylie clubs El Paso Parkland behind Moore's no-hitter

ODESSA – Wylie finished off El Paso Parkland with a 10-0 victory in five innings to sweep the best-of-three Region I-5A area softball playoff series at the Ratliff Softball Complex.

Hanna Hood and Cameron Gregory drove in two runs each, while Mycala Reed and Kynslee George both hit solo homers – back-to-back shots in the fourth inning.

It was more than enough for Rylee Moore, who tossed a no-hitter. She struck out two and didn’t walk anyone She retired the first 12 batters she faced before a leadoff error in the fifth. It was the only Matador to reach base.

Parkland (19-19) was playing in the second round for the first time in seven years.

Wylie (27-6) plays El Paso Hanks (36-1) in the region quarterfinals. Game 1 of the series is 6 p.m. Friday. Game 2 is 11 a.m. Saturday. Game 3 would be played 30 minutes after Game 2, if necessary. All games will be played at Monahans.

Wylie pounded out 22 hits, while Reese Farrar tossed a one-hitter as the Lady Bulldogs blasted Parkland 22-1 in the opener Friday.

Farrar struck out 10 and walked three in the seven-inning complete game.

It was Wylie’s third straight one-hitter to open the playoffs.

Georgianise De La Torre hit a one-out triple and scored in the bottom of the first to make it a 3-1 game. That’s all the runs the Matadors would get.

Wylie, meanwhile, got four more in the fourth, including a leadoff homer from Moore, and the Lady Bulldogs finished the game with a 13-run seventh inning. Gregory had two of her team’s six doubles in the seventh inning. Wylie sent 17 batters to the plate in the frame.

Jadyn Fernandez (3-for-4, three RBIs, three runs), Moore (2-4, three RBIs, two runs), Gregory (3-4, three RBIs), Kat Martinez (3-4, two doubles, two RBIs, three runs), Farrar (3-5, double, two RBIs), Hood (2-4, double, two runs), Halli Russell (two hits, RBI), George (two hits, RBI), Shyla Thompson (double, RBI), Cashlyn Farr (RBI) and Reed (double, two runs) contributed to the Lady Bulldogs offense.

Hanks quiets Lady Eagles

At Fort Stockton, Hanks scored seven runs in the fourth inning, and Desirae Spearman tossed a three-hitter as the Lady Knights beat Abilene High 7-1 to sweep the best-of-three Region I-5A area playoff series.

Mia Bailey’s three-run single with two outs in the fourth capped Hanks’ big inning.

Spearman struck out eight and walked two in seven innings for the victory.

AHS (27-7) got its lone run in the seventh. Kinzley Cantu singled and scored when Avah Reyes reached on an error.

Reyes took the loss in the circle, giving up seven runs on six hits. She struck out three and walked five.

Hanks won the opener 7-6 on Friday, thanks to Madison Young’s three-run home run with two outs in the sixth. The blast capped a five-run inning that began with a leadoff homer by Spearman, who hit two homers in the game. She and Judith Osuna hit back-to-back shots in the third.

Mariah Estrada led AHS with two doubles and three RBIs. Tea Jimenez also had a solo homer.
