H.S. Roundup: Fisher Catholic boys and girls take home MSL-Cardinal track titles

TRACK

Fisher Catholic wins MSL: The Fisher Catholic boys and girls both won the Mid-State League-Cardinal Division Track and Field Championships held at Berne Union High School.

The Irish boys scored 146 points while Harvest Prep placed second (130). Senior Noah Sharp won three events: 1,600 (4:20.09), the 800 (1:59.49), and the 3,200 (9:33.59), and in the process, broke three Mid-State League records. Sharp earned the Most Valuable Runner award.

The 3,200 relay team consisting of Sharp, Landen Funk, Jack Gentile and Alex Ristau placed first (8:23.32) and broke an MSL record. Nathan Krile placed first in the pole vault (11-0), Jake Krooner was first in the 300 hurdles (42.6), and Nolan Garrabrant was first in the high jump (5-8).

Krile finished second in the 400 (53.73), Krooner was second in the 110 hurdles (17.82), and the 1,600 relay team of Krile, Ristau, Funk and Gentile placed second (3:40.56). Gentile was third I the 800 (2:06.63) and 400 (54.0) and Daschel Neighbor was third in the 300 hurdles.

The Irish girls scored 142.5 points while Harvest Prep placed second with 129.5 points. Leading the Irish was junior Ruby Hagy, who placed first in the 1,600 (5:37.1), first in the 400 (62.1) and second in the 800 (2:40). Hady was named the Most Valuable Runner and Abby Krooner earned the Most Valuable Track Performer.

The 1,600 relay team placed first (4:31.4) and consisted of Hagy, Krooner, Marie Hampshire and Charli Gillum. Abigail Crabtree was second in the high jump (4-2), while the 3,200 relay team consisting of Ava Albert, Maggie Murphy, Lillia Funk and Hampshire finished second (11:43.3). The 800 relay team of Hampshire, Voni Bethel, Gillum and Ellie Funk placed third (2:02.11).

BASEBALL

Fairfield Christian Academy 10, Grove City Christian 0: The Knights improved to 17-4 overall and clinched the outright Mid-State League-Cardinal Division championship with a win over the Eagles.

Christian Schulz led the offense with two hits, two RBI, and one run scored.  Andrew Keener also drove in three runs with a hit and scored once, while Harrison Teal and Gabe Linn drove in a run each with a hit.  Aiden Langwasser rounded out the offense with one hit and scored two runs.

J.P. Vance picked up the win on the mound throwing five shutout innings, with eight strikeouts, and allowing only two hits.

SOFTBALL

Circleville 3, Liberty Union 0: The Lions fell short in their Mid-State League-Buckeye Division loss to the Tigers, in a game that was halted after five innings because of the weather.

Payton Hochradel was 2-for-3, Audrey Famer went 2-for-2 and Suzie Shultz had one hit. Shultz suffered the loss in the circle, giving up three hits and three runs, with two of those being earned, and she finished with 12 strikeouts in five innings of work.

TENNIS

Lancaster duo advances: Lancaster’s doubles team of Parker Cohen and Grant Hampson advanced to play in the Central District Division I tournament during the seeding rounds at Pickerington Central.

In round one, they lost against Olentangy, 6-2, 6-4, and in the third-place match, they won 7-6, 7-6 against Marion Harding.

The district tournament is May 17 at Upper Arlington High School.
