‘I guess you’re off your meds again’: Conor McGregor, Jorge Masvidal trade insults in heated exchange

Neither Conor McGregor nor Jorge Masvidal are expected to display their in-cage abilities in the coming weeks (or even months), but their trash-talking talents were on full display Thursday on Twitter.

One day after Masvidal (35-15 MMA, 14-9 UFC) withdrew from his UFC 269 fight against Leon Edwards due to injury, McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) initiated a brief back-and-forth with the lone “BMF” champion in UFC history.

Shortly thereafter, Masvidal responded. His managers, Malki and Abe Kawa of First Round Management, were quick to follow and back their fighter.

Check out the full exchange below.

Conor McGregor throws the first (verbal) jab

McGregor took exception with Masvidal’s pullout and questioned the “BMF’s” status. He called for a stripping of the BMF title and poked fun at Masvidal’s past fashion.

Jorge Masvidal claps back

Not long after, Masvidal responded and told McGregor he was “barking up the wrong tree.” He then brought up McGregor’s past legal incident when he was caught on camera punching an older man in a Dublin bar.

Manager Abe Kawa chimes in

Manager Abe Kawa then quoted his fighter’s tweet. In that tweet, he claimed McGregor chose to fight against Donald Cerrone in early 2020 rather than compete against Masvidal.

Manager Malki Kawa adds his two cents

Manager Malki Kawa added that their party has asked to fight McGregor, but that the promotion has told them they aren’t big enough names to fight the Irishman.

Masvidal’s injury and return timeline are unknown at this time. As for McGregor, the former UFC double champion is expected to return in 2022 following a broken leg suffered in his trilogy fight against Dustin Poirier in July.
