Group headlined by LeBron James to buy Major League Pickleball team

LeBron James is one of the greatest NBA players of all time, but he has also become a legend off the court.

In addition to trying his hand at acting and becoming a vocal activist who is fighting for racial and social equality, the four-time champ is a giant in the business world.

Just a few months ago, Forbes magazine estimated that he had passed the $1 billion mark in terms of net worth.

Now, James is headlining a group that is poised to purchase a pro team in another sport.

Via Lakers Nation:

“LRMR Ventures, the family office of LeBron and his business partner Maverick Carter, are purchasing a Major League Pickleball team as part of an all-star consortium. This consortium also includes James’ former Cleveland Cavaliers teammate Kevin Love as well as one of his biggest rivals in Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green.

“Investment firm SC Holdings, Relevent Sports Group co-owner and CEO Daniel Sillman and SpringHill Company CMO Paul Rivera are also part of the purchasing group.”

For those who may not know, pickleball, according to Sports Illustrated, could be thought of as “a hybrid between badminton, tennis and, as wild as it may sound, Wiffle Ball.” The sport is rapidly growing in popularity and availability across the nation.

James and Carter have already made a foray into sports team ownership. They recently acquired part-ownership of Major League Baseball’s Boston Red Sox, the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins and the English Premier League’s Liverpool F.C. by joining Fenway Sports Group.

What James has done off the court has made a huge impression on many people, as he has become, in his own words, more than an athlete.
