Green Bay Packers draw the most fans to Lambeau Field in five years

GREEN BAY, Wisc. – Despite the Green Bay Packers' sometimes uninspired play in 2022, fans turned out in large numbers to watch the team at Lambeau Field.

Lambeau averaged 78,075 paying fans per game, compared to 77,991 the year before, and the most since 2017's average of 78,093. The highest average all-time was 78,414 in 2015, when the Packers were 10-6 and finished second to the Vikings in the NFC North. Total attendance for eight regular-season games this season was 624,599.

The Packers were 8-9 and missed the playoffs for the first time in four years by losing to Detroit 20-16 at Lambeau Field in the last regular-season game of the season. Before that, the Packers won four consecutive games, including victories over playoff teams Miami in Florida and Minnesota at Lambeau.

Road-game attendance is harder to measure, but Packers fans are known for traveling well. It is the most-cited reason for why the Packers were the last team to play an international game. Teams hosting international games routinely refused to play Green Bay overseas because they knew they could draw a lot of Packers fans to their own home stadiums.

When the NFL adopted a 17-game schedule, it mandated that every team must play an international game at least once every eight years and the Packers did so on Oct. 9 in London against the New York Giants. How many Packers fans attended the game is not known, but London was awash with people wearing green and gold that week, and Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy suggested that up to two-thirds of Tottenham Hotspur's 62,850 seats were filled by Green Bay fans.

For the most part, fans behaved themselves at Lambeau Field in 2022. Green Bay Police reported 26 arrests at Lambeau Field this season and 64 ejections. The two rowdiest games were the back-to-back contests against the Cowboys on Nov. 13 and Tennessee Titans on Nov. 17. Those two games accounted for 46% of arrests and 31% of ejections. The Cowboys game included five arrests and 11 ejections and the Tennessee game seven arrests and nine ejections.
