Gogglebox viewers have been left in hysterics after receiving a glimpse at a notebook full of scribbled Line of Duty theories by cast member Jenny Newby.

Recent episodes of the Channel 4 hit have shown Newby, who sits alongside her best friend Lee Riley, reaching for a blue notebook while watching the twisty police drama Line of Duty.

The official Gogglebox Twitter account had noticed that viewers were eager for a glimpse inside the book, and on Friday (9 April) shared a close-up image of Newby’s notes.

“Take a screen grab and zoom in for your sneak peek into Detective Jenny’s notebook as the investigation continues!” the account joked, alongside an image of the book.

One of the two pages posted by the account is devoted to the third episode of Line of Duty’s current series. The series investigates the murder of Gail Vella (Andi Osho), a prominent investigative journalist.

Newby already has her theories on the mystery, with the Gogglebox star writing that current prime suspect Terry Boyle is “defo not” Vella’s killer. She’s also convinced that the killer isn’t Detective Superintendent Ian Buckells (Nigel Boyle), either, who Newby has also marked with a “defo not”.

The image of Newby’s notebook was met with delight by Gogglebox fans, with one writing: “They will be contacting Jenny for clues and ideas with that notebook. Oh my god how thrilled she’d be if they did.”

Another added: “It’s the new Da Vinci Code!”

Newby isn’t alone in trying to solve the mystery of Vella’s murder, and the identities of those linked with the corrupt syndicate known as “H”.

The most recent episode of Line of Duty led certain fans to believe they’d spotted a clue to H’s identity in a kitchen tile, while others tweeted that a picture of a golfer in the background of a shot may be a portentous Easter egg.

Line of Duty continues Sundays at 9pm on BBC One, while Gogglebox screens on Channel 4 on Fridays at 9pm.
