Glenn's Falcons roll past Bremen's Lions in high school football Friday night

BREMEN — John Glenn football coach John Barron calls it "fun" to coach Chase Miller.

It's easy to see why the veteran mentor feels that way.

Senior Miller was all over the field Friday night to pace his Falcons to a dominating 42-0 win over host Bremen in Northern Indiana Conference play.

Quarterback Miller rushed for 98 yards, scored once and orchestrated a complete effort of offensive dominance as the Falcons rolled past the Lions at Don Bunge Field.

Miller also intercepted two passes, a pair of his team's three picks on the night, as Glenn improved to 4-2 overall and moved to 2-1 in the NIC North-South Division. Bremen, losers of two in a row, dropped to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the NIC.

The US 6 rivalry, which will move to the newly announced Indiana Northern State Conference in 2024, was no rivalry on this night.

Glenn rolled to a 35-0 halftime lead thanks to a 29-point second period. The Falcons rushed for 222 yards in the first half with Miller gaining 93 and Mason Kobelt 76. Blake Wright scored on a pair of touchdown runs for the Falcons, who took the opening drive 66 yards in five rushing plays for a touchdown to set the tone from the start.

Ty'Ronn Larkin capped the first half with a 55-yard pick six for the Falcons in the final minute to set up a running clock in the final half.

"Our O line has been like this all year," praised Miller of his teammates clearing the way up front. "They have worked their butts off. It's a strong group. We knew we were capable of this if we played Glenn football. It's all about what we do in practice and trusting each other."

Miller, who is also the shortstop for the Glenn baseball team and its point guard during basketball season, also ran for a two-point conversion and kicked four PATs in the victory.

Barron, whose team lost 14-7 to Bremen last year, saw his team respond after a loss to unbeaten Knox last week.

"I really like this team," said Barron, now in his second season in Walkerton. "We have a good team with some talented players. We're coming. We just can't get too far ahead of ourselves.

"We wanted to take care of ourselves this week. We've lost to two undefeated teams. Our offensive line is coming and Damon Groves is doing a great job as our offensive coordinator. We wanted to get back to a rhythm of running the ball this week."

Turning point of the game

Glenn took the opening drive and went 66 yards in just five running plays to take a 6-0 lead and control from the whistle.

What they said

"Chase (Miller) is just fun to coach," said Glenn coach John Barron. "He's so coachable. He's a winner, humble, works hard every day, is a great teammate and a competitor. I could list about 10 things that make him such a special player for us."

"They wanted it more than we did," said Bremen coach Jordan Leeper. "I'm at a loss for words. This falls on me and I'll take the blame for it. It surprised me. We will find out a lot of things about ourselves as a team this coming week."
