Glacier boys surge to Missoula golf title
Aug. 23—MISSOULA — The Glacier boys were looking up at Missoula Sentinel golfers after the first day of the Missoula Invitational, played at Larchmont Golf Course Monday.
All the Wolfpack did Tuesday at Canyon River Golf Club was go 2-under par as a team.
With Sam Engellant (70), Trevor Cunningham (71) and Tanyon Murray (71) all shooting under par — and by the way finishing 2-3-4, with Torren Murray sixth — Glacier surged to the team title with a 286 Tuesday and 577 total.
Sentinel, which led by six strokes on Monday with a 285 total, ended up second at 585.
Capital (632) was third and Butte was fourth.
Flathead, with Dylan Morris (153) and Tyler Williams (154) finishing in the top 13, took fifth at 655.
Engelland and Sentinel's Kade McDonough came through a rainy first round as co-leaders at 67. On Tuesday McDonough fired a 68, the low round of the day, to take medalist honors.
The low girls round on Tuesday was a 74 by Missoula Hellgate's Anna Stensrud; she took medalist honors by 13 strokes and her Knights held off Helena High for the team title by four strokes.
Glacier's Chloe Tanner was second with a two-day total of 167; teammate Abbi Townsend was 15th at 216 and the Wolfpack finished third in the team standings.
Flathead was seventh as a team, and Kyrie Gislason finished just outside the top 15 with a total of 219.
Missoula Big Sky's Lev Heaney also broke 80 Tuesday, firing a 78.
