Girls lacrosse: Vote for The Journal News/lohud Player of the Week

Last week, area high school girls lacrosse coaches nominated 16 athletes for Journal News/lohud Player of the Week. Readers responded by casting 40,240 votes online in fewer than 24 hours.

With 12,339 votes, Brooke Pizzarello, a Lakeland/Panas freshman midfielder, who scored 15 goals over a three-game span, won the honor.

Holy Cross-bound Rye senior Mackenzie Chiamento was the runner-up, with 6,977 votes.

This week, coaches have nominated 15 athletes for their April 24-29 play.

Lila Berkery, Harrison

The midfielder scored 10 goals over the course of a 15-6 win over New Rochelle and 9-8 loss to Horace Greeley. Although just a sophomore, included among her goals was her 100th for her varsity career.

Cassidy Croce, Croton

The senior midfielder/attacker scored 11 goals, dished out six assists and won the race to 15 balls off the draw over the course of three games.

Erin Drillock, Pleasantville

During wins over Westlake and Kennedy Catholic, the junior attacker amassed eight goals, two assists, beat opponents to six loose balls and won the battle for 12 balls off draws.

Brienna Gaccino, Yorktown

In three games, including two wins, the sophomore attacker netted a total of 11 goals, had two assists, grabbed three loose balls before opponents could get them and caused one turnover. She scored once in a loss to top-ranked John Jay-Cross River, netted five goals and had two assists in an 11-9 win over then-No. 7-ranked Hen Hud and had five goals and got three loose balls and caused one turnover in an 8-5 win over Lakeland/Panas.

Della Goodman, Rye

The junior attacker, who's committed to play for Georgetown, surpassed the 100-point mark for her varsity career as the Garnets won two league games. In wins over Ursuline and Pelham, she totalled three goals and four assists and caused one turnover.

Elizabeth Halloran, Tuckahoe

The sophomore netminder, who's in her first year on varsity after playing goal on the modified and JV levels, had 22 saves over the course of three games last week.

Tatum Korpi, Blind Brook

The freshman midfielder/defenseman scored six times as Blind Brook went 1-1. In a win over Haldane, she had two goals, won the race to five ground balls, got another two balls off the draw and twice forced the Blue Devils to turn the ball over. And in a loss to Edgemont, Korpi scored four times, beat the Panthers to six ground balls and two more balls off the draw and caused them to turn the ball over four times.

Jaclyn Mahoney, Pearl River

The sophomore midfielder netted five goals, had an assist, beat opponents to 16 balls off the draw and caused them to turn the ball over three times during two games.

Ella Nee, Ossining

The sophomore midfielder netted two goals against Pawling and had another score against Dobbs Ferry

Adrianna Pranzo, Mahopac

Known for her high energy and strength in transition, the junior midfielder, who often takes the draw for Mahopac, scored twice and won the race to five ground balls in a win over Haldane and recorded two assists and grabbed seven loose balls in a win over Brewster.

Bella Smith, Sleepy Hollow

The senior midfielder scored four times, netting her 100th career goal on varsity, during the Headless Horsemen's 15-12 win over Dobbs Ferry. Smith also had six goals and two assists in a win over Tuckahoe, two goals and an assist in a win over Yonkers and five goals and three assists in a win over Edgemont.

Emily Sorio, Harvey

The sophomore attacker had 14 goals as Harvey went 1-1. In a 14-13 setback to Connecticut's Christina Heritage, she netted six goals and had one assist. And in the Cavaliers' 16-6 win over league rival Forman, she poured in eight goals and had two assists.

Zoe Stonecipher, Fox Lane

The attacker poured in 14 goals over three Fox wins last week, including, despite being just a sophomore, her 100th career goal on varsity. Against Carmel, Stonecipher netted No. 100 while scoring four times. She also had an assist in that game and beat Ram players to four balls off the draw. Stonecipher scored four times and had an assist and won the race to seven balls off the draw against Byram Hills and she poured in six goals and had three assists against White Plains.

Malin Turnquist, Kennedy Catholic

The senior midfielder, a Bryant University commit, had 15 goals last week over three games. Turnquist netted four goals in a win over Holy Child, had a hat trick in a loss to Pleasantville and poured in eight goals in a win over St Joseph by the Sea to bring her season goal total to 61.

Lili Valletta, North Salem

During a huge week, the junior midfielder, who has committed to play for Villanova, surpassed 100 career goals on the Tiger varsity. In wins over Ardsley and Croton, she amassed 13 points on eight goals and five assists, beat opponents to secure six loose balls, won the race to 14 balls off the draw and caused five turnovers.
