Girls golf regional roundup: DeWitt captures Division 2 title

Courtney Novak led a strong showing for the DeWitt girls golf team as it captured a regional championship Wednesday.

The junior shot a 76 while finishing as the individual runner-up at a Division 2 regional at El Dorado Golf Course. Her performance helped No. 6-ranked DeWitt shoot a 341 as a team to win by four strokes over Mason.

Novak was one of two golfers in the top 10 for DeWitt. Senior Jordyn Crawley finished ted for fifth with an 81 for the Panthers, who also got top-20 finishes from junior Cate Piesko (tied 14th) and senior Laynie Hamlin (tied 20th).

No. 3-ranked Mason had five golfers in the top 20, led by senior Ava Clark, who tied for seventh with an 82. Junior Kortney Osborn was ninth for the Bulldogs with an 85, while Claire Heathman was 12th, Tylar Southwell placed 17th and Gabby Hanover took 20th.

No. 7 Dexter finished a stroke behind Mason to also earn a trip to the finals.

Haslett had a pair of individual state finals qualifiers in senior Mina Yoo and junior Molly Fortier. Yoo was fourth after a round of 80, while Fortier shot an 81.

Waverly's Mackenzie Price finished 11th and shot an 86. Keira Mahon was 18th to lead Fowlerville.

Division 4 at Glenbrier

Top-ranked Lansing Catholic had four golfers finish in the top 10 while capturing a regional title on Tuesday. The Cougars shot a 369 as a team and were 13 strokes ahead of runner-up Bath.

Senior Sophie Hauser was the regional medalist with her round of 79 to lead Lansing Catholic. Addi Rule was fourth after shooting a 94, Brynn Anderson fired a 95 and was fifth and Julia Sambaer placed eighth with a 101.

No. 9-ranked Bath had three golfers finish in the top 10, led by Anna Schaibly, who was the individual runner-up with her round of 83. Aubrie Schaibly was fifth for the Bees and shot a 95, while Aubri Torok shot a 99 and placed seventh.

Perry was third at the regional with a 450 to also qualify for the state finals. The Ramblers were led by Addyson Lampron, who was eighth with a 101.

Olivet's Jocelyn Rolston and Pewamo-Westphalia's Brooke Spitzley were individual state finals qualifiers. Rolston placed 10th with a round of 102, while Spitzley was 11th and shot a 104.

Division 3 at Pine River Country Club

Junior Ava Vogt had a round of 92 while placing ninth to lead Alma at Wednesday's regional.
