GIRLS' BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Rock Creek rolls over Christian Academy

Dec. 13—NEW ALBANY — Visiting Rock Creek raced out to a 30-4 halftime lead en route to a 57-25 triumph — the Lions' fifth in a row — over host Christian Academy on Tuesday night.

Rock Creek led 18-2 at the end of the first quarter before outscoring the Warriors 12-2 in the second to take that 26-point advantage into the locker room. The Lions increased their lead to 48-14 through three periods before CAI outpointed the visitors 11-9 in the final frame.

Nevaeh McWilliams tallied a team-high 13 points to lead a balanced attack for Rock Creek, which also received 12 from Jayli Smith and 11 from Rylan Byars.

Leah Stevens scored seven points to lead the Warriors while Brooklyn Shields added six.

The Lions (5-7) will visit Southwestern at 7:30 p.m. Thursday night.

Christian Academy (3-8) will host South Central at 6 p.m. Friday night in the first game of a girl-boy doubleheader.

EAGLES OUST PIONEERS

AUSTIN — Host Austin downed Providence 53-38 in a matchup of sectional foes Tuesday night.

The Eagles led 15-9 at the end of the first quarter before the Pioneers cut it to 23-20 by the break. Austin took control in the third period, when it outpointed Providence 17-7.

Brynn Owens scored a game-high 15 points to lead four in double digits for the Eagles (7-4), who'll visit Clarksville at 7:30 p.m. Thursday night.

Avery Smith tallied a team-best 12 points while Kaia Kailer added 10 for the Pioneers (4-6), who'll host New Albany at 7:30 p.m. Thursday night.

RAMS CLIP CLARKSVILLE

PAOLI — Host Paoli clipped Clarksville 53-22 Tuesday night.

The Rams led 14-9 at the end of the first quarter and 28-14 at the break before taking command in the third period, when they outscored the Generals 18-2.

Carley Higgins had a game-high 26 points for Paoli.

Clarksville (2-7) will host Austin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday night.
