Girls basketball playoffs: Lewis reaches 1,000-point milestone in Buena's first-round win

Sophomore Karisma Lewis scored 20 points to eclipse 1,000 for her career and also grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Buena High girls basketball team to a 63-30 win over visiting in a CIF-Southern Section Division 2A first-round game.

Riannah Lopez scored 11 points and Mimi Moon finished with eight points and seven assists for the Channel League co-champion Bulldogs (22-5), who will play at Santa Margarita in a second-round game Saturday at 2 p.m.

Lewis became the 12th player in the storied history of the Buena girls basketball program to reach 1,000 points. Still finishing just her second high school season, Lewis has a shot to become the Bulldogs' all-time leading scorer by the time she's finished. Kelly Greathouse holds the program record with 2,005 points.

Sofia Salgado drained seven 3-pointers and finished with 30 points to lead Oxnard to a 75-63 win over host Village Christian in a first-round game in the rugged Division 1 bracket.

Mikayla Oliver scored 15 points, Azalea Kubic had 11 points, Sienna Angel had eight points, Kayla Lumas had seven points, and Charnelle Nichols added six points for the Yellowjackets (23-6), who finished third in the Channel League.

Oxnard will host San Dimas in a second-round game Saturday.

Three local teams in the Division 4AA bracket also won first-round games Thursday night.

Sophia Fernandez finished with 18 points, seven rebounds and three steals, Sarah Cosio had 15 points and eight steals, Bella Rico had 11 points, five rebounds and three steals, and Milan Garcia contributed eight points and eight steals to lead Tri-Valley League co-champion St. Bonaventure to a 60-24 win over visiting Pasadena Poly.

The Seraphs (16-8) will play at Rancho Cucamonga in a second-round game Saturday.

Freshman Aryanna Lopez scored 19 points, Alyse Ramirez had 12 points, Alyssa Garcia had 10 points, Madilyn Stonebraker finished with 12 rebounds, four blocks and four points, and Miahnna Galvan added eight points to lead Citrus Coast League champion Santa Paula to a 60-45 win over visiting Gahr.

The Cardinals (20-8) reached 20 wins for first time in program history and will play at San Marino in a second-round game Saturday.

Skylar Komatsu finished with 18 points, six rebounds, six assists and four assists, Dana Cruz had 17 points and four steals, Greta Heath had 15 points, 14 rebounds, five steals and five assists, Kimiko Carmer had 14 points, six steals and four assists, and Kai Mekari contributed 10 points, five rebounds and two assists to lead Newbury Park to a 77-29 victory over host Edgewood.

The Panthers (23-6) will host Loma Linda Academy in a second-round game Saturday.

In Division 3AA, Tri-Valley League co-champion Foothill Tech defeated visiting Crossroads, 36-32. The Dragons (12-11) will host Cantwell Sacred Heart in a second-round game Saturday.

Sophomore Mathis Dritz poured in 31 points and Taylor Swanson had 14 points for Westlake in its 71-56 loss to visiting Los Osos in a Division 2AA first-round game.

The Marmonte League champion Warriors, who headed into the postseason on a 12-game winning streak, finished their season at 18-7.

Jocelynn Townsend had 24 points and six rebounds, Maddy Tauro scored 12 points, and Erin Topacio hit four 3-pointers and finished with 13 points for Calabasas (12-13) in its 67-61 overtime loss to host Flintridge Prep in a Division 2AA first-round game.

Simi Valley (6-10) lost 70-31 to host Gabrielino in a Division 3A first-round game.

Newbury Park Adventist (12-7) fell to top-seeded Palos Verdes, 69-19, on the road in a Division 4A first-round game.

Nordhoff (10-11) lost to visiting Diamond Ranch, 30-19, in a Division 4A first-round game.

Frontier League champion Thacher (11-7) lost to visiting Estancia, 40-33, in a Division 5AA first-round game.

Hillcrest Christian (7-5) lost to host Duarte, 60-18, in a Division 5AA first-round game.
