Giants’ Darren Waller expected to play vs. Cowboys

The New York Giants unexpectedly listed tight end Darren Waller as questionable on Friday’s injury report with a hamstring issue.

Despite the designation, Waller looked spry in practice and most reports suggested the injury was minor. Still, given the nature of hamstring injuries and Waller’s history with them, there was concern he’d fail to make his Giants debut in Week 1.

That concern has been alleviated… A bit.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that Waller is expected to play on Sunday night against the Dallas Cowboys. However, to what extent is unclear.

Even if Waller’s injury is minor, the Giants won’t want to risk losing their top offensive target long-term, so his role may be limited in Week 1.

Waller was the Giants’ biggest offseason addition, having been acquired from the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for a third-round pick. His presence completely transformed the team’s offense and provided quarterback Daniel Jones with the big-play receiver he had been missing throughout his career.
