Giants’ Brian Daboll: Tyrod Taylor ‘the role model of a true professional’

Tyrod Taylor was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2011 NFL Draft, making this his 13th season in the league. A veteran who has experienced more adversity than most, Taylor seems to rise to whatever challenge is presented to him.

New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll knows this and said that Taylor is “the role model of a true professional” when asked about Taylor’s ability to rub off on teammates and coaches.

The question is about Taylor’s ability to rise to the challenge and bring others with him.

“He’s, to start with, a really good person. Obviously, he’s been through a lot in his career, his 13 years in the NFL,” Daboll said. “He’s the model of a true professional, how he takes care of himself, how he prepares, how he is with his teammates. That’s why he’s been in the league for so long.

“So, I think all the stuff that he does, whether it’s (being) in really early, lifting in the weight room, how he is in the meetings, how he is with guys in the huddle, it’s kind of been built over the years, but I really think that’s who he is as a person and how he was raised. Incredible human being.”

What Taylor has gone through in his career wasn’t easy, but it is inspiring. After backing up Joe Flacco in Baltimore for four years, Taylor signed with the Buffalo Bills where he helped the team reach the playoffs for the first time in 17 years in 2017. In 2018, Taylor was traded to the Browns as the Bills made room for Josh Allen.

Once a quarterback goes to the Browns, it seems like they are never the same. Alex Smith. Brady Quinn. Baker Mayfield. Those are just a few.

Speaking of Mayfield, he’s the one who took Taylor’s spot in Cleveland when Tyrod went down with an injury. That same scenario would happen two more times with the Chargers and Texans where a rookie took his position when he was injured.

Now it seems that Taylor might have another chance to show the league that he’s still got something in the tank, and that he’s worth having around. The Giants certainly appreciate him right now and are thankful his rib injury wasn’t more serious.
