Giants' Andrew Thomas shares advice for struggling Evan Neal

Giants offensive tackle Evan Neal (73) and New York Giants offensive tackle Andrew Thomas (78) exit the field after defeating the Carolina Panthers at MetLife Stadium

Evan Neal has been the center of negative attention for the Giants all week due to his poor play and recent comments critical of the disgruntled fan base before apologizing on Wednesday.

But if anyone knows what Neal is going through, it is fellow lineman and first-round pick Andrew Thomas.

The Giants left tackle, who has been out since Week 2 with a hamstring injury, experienced his own early career struggles before earning All-Pro Second Team honors last year.

“I’ve told him I’ve obviously been in his situation, playing tackle and having a lot of expectations and obviously not performing the way we want to,” Thomas told reporters on Friday. “I just told him you just gotta focus on what gets you better.

“Worrying about what people may say, outside opinions, it doesn’t really affect how you play. You’re not going to get better by reading different things or focusing on [them]; the only way you’re going to get better is by correcting your technique, listening to what the coaches are telling you and that’s how you’re going to get better. And that will all take care of itself. You play well, then you don’t have to worry about anything else.”

The Giants certainly need Neal, the seventh overall pick in 2022, to improve as they will be without Thomas for the fourth straight week and will also be without starting center John Michael Schmitz and guard Shane Lemieux against the Dolphins on Sunday.
