Georgia TE Lawson Luckie suffers injury in fall camp

Georgia freshman tight end Lawson Luckie suffered an ankle injury in Saturday’s scrimmage and is scheduled to undergo surgery on Wednesday, according to Marc Weizer of the Athens Banner-Herald.

It’s unclear how long Luckie will be out.

The Norcross, Georgia, native had an impressive spring including a big performance in Georgia’s spring game.

Luckie, the nation’s No. 2 tight end in the 2023 class, was projected as the third option in the Bulldogs tight end room behind junior All-American Brock Bowers and sophomore Oscar Delp.

In light of Luckie’s injury, freshman Pearce Spurlin, the nation’s No. 5 tight end in the 2023 class, will see more reps as the Bulldogs prepare for the season opener versus UT Martin on Sept. 2.

Spurlin is healthy after missing spring practice with a broken collarbone.
